Developer LocalThunk has officially released a brand-new update for Balatro, which has now gone live for all players. This patch was released in beta earlier in the year and includes a few changes that players will want to check out. Among stability improvements, updates have been made on how various Joker cards work during rounds, as well as other changes that may throw even the more experienced Balatro players for a loop.
Balatro is a roguelike card game that transforms the iconic game of poker and turns it on its head. Balatro tasks players with surviving a gauntlet of Blinds. These Blinds represent the number of points a player must achieve in order to survive. Players must utilize varied skills in order to excel at the game, with Balatro combining the strategy of card games with the randomness of a roguelike experience.

Balatro: How to Find Fun Seeds
Players who love hitting high scores and antes in Balatro can learn how to find tons of unique and powerful seeds in this guide.
Among various gameplay improvements, Balatro's new update includes the addition of new mechanics for Jokers. Perishable is the first of these new gameplay mechanics, which adds a new sticker to Jokers, forcing them to go away after a total of five rounds. The new Rental mechanic changes the price of Jokers to $1 at the start and increases it to $3 after each round. These cards are an important part of the game, with Balatro featuring a grand total of 150 jokers. Players have access to a majority of these Jokers at the start but will need to meet certain requirements in order to unlock each one.
Balatro's latest patch also includes a few bug fixes and performance improvements, as well as a few other new gameplay features. Within Balatro's newest update is also the option to ban certain Blinds during challenge runs, allowing players to better predict what to expect during a game of Balatro more easily. LocalThunk has also given players the option to toggle between normal mode and a new Reduced Motion option, which removes some of Balatro's more intense visual elements that may be distracting for some players. In Balatro, players are faced with the Ante, which is incredibly important as it dictates the score a player must achieve. New changes to the Ante system now make hard mode slightly easier, with the new 1.0.1 update reducing the Ante scaling during the most challenging Balatro stages.
Balatro quickly made an impression after its release earlier in the year, becoming one of the highest-rated games of 2024. Balatro can be found on nearly every modern gaming platform, with a mobile version now in the works as well.
