Baldur’s Gate 3 is an incredibly popular game right now, and it has certainly earned every bit of its praise. While it is based on Dungeons & Dragons, players don’t need prior knowledge of it to be able to play this game and enjoy it. This game takes players on an epic journey through its expansive and diverse world as the player’s party level up and learn new powerful skills and spells.
With so much to do and explore in this game, one of the first areas the player will probably stumble upon is an old chapel which leads them into the Dank Crypt. This dungeon proves to be a good introduction to what the game has to offer to new players.
How To Enter the Dank Crypt
It’s recommended to at least have Gale, Shadowheart, and Lae’zel in the party before starting.
To access the Dank Crypt, the player has more than one option. They have three possible entrances:
- The Hatch, which leads the player directly into the back of the Dank Crypt. This is the best path if the player wants to avoid fighting. Although they’ll need a character to lockpick it open.
- The Cracked Floor, which the player will easily notice around where the bandits are standing. The player has the option to drop a rock on it by shooting a rope, breaking this path open. If the player decides to go this path, they might sustain some damage from jumping inside and be thrown into a fight immediately.
- The Door inside the chapel, which is perhaps the most straightforward way to enter the Dank Crypt. There will be a bandit on the other side of the door, and the player will have multiple options to try and convince him to open the door. The player can simply lockpick it open as well. After that, the player will have to fight enemies.
This article will cover the paths that start after entering the door inside of the chapel.
Inside The Dank Crypt
When the player first enters the crypt, they’ll have to face one bandit who is behind the door, Andron. After defeating him and heading into the next room they’ll encounter more bandits.
The player should head into the South Room to acquire the key for the north door that is locked. Alternatively, the player can try to break the door to the North Room.
When entering the South Room, players should stay careful as it is filled with traps. Advance carefully and wait until the characters’ perceptions checks can hopefully notice the traps.
The player will need to open the Sarcophagus to get the Engraved Key
, but more traps await. There are oil vents on the grounds that will be ignited when the Sarcophagus is opened. To avoid that, the player should block the vents with the vases around them, or use disarming toolkits on each vent.
If the player has a good perception, they’ll also have access to a button that disarms all traps. After this, the player should have acquired the Engraved Key needed to open the north door. The player can also find The Watcher’s Guide.
The Dank Crypt’s North Room
After unlocking the door of the North Room with the Engraved Key, players can finally head in. There, the player will find a statue with skeletons around it. The player should loot their weapons before entering the room in the west. There, the player will find a soul coin in one of the coffins.
After the player leaves this room and inspects the northwest corner of the north room, they should find a button after succeeding with their perception check.
This button will open the door, but it will also awaken the corpses. These foes are easier to fight since the player took their weapons and, overall, they shouldn't cause too much trouble.
The Final Room Of The Dank Crypt
After defeating the enemies, the player will go through the door opened by the button. There, the player should find the Amulet of Lost Voices in a Heavy Chest
. It can be very useful as it gives players the ability to cast the spell
Speak with Dead
.
When that is done, the player should open the Sarcophagus present in that room. When that happens, an important NPC named Withers will appear. Withers will be present at the player’s camp the next time they head there, and he will serve a very important role.
Withers is a must-have recruit character as he will allow the player to change their character’s class, to revive fallen comrades, and to recruit Hirelings, for a price in gold.
With the Dank Crypt done, all the player has to do now is exit this area and reach the outside world again.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available to play on PC and PlayStation 5.
