Many of the most memorable moments in Dungeons and Dragons, the tabletop RPG that inspired Baldur's Gate 3, occur inside a burning building. Combat and skills are already intense but with an added time limit and the environment collapsing all around the party, these are moments players don't forget.

Baldur's Gate 3: 24 Must-Try Party Setups For Unique Playthroughs

If you want a unique playthrough of Baldur's Gate 3, these party set-ups will do the trick.

Baldur's Gate 3 embraces this situation with a burning building and two poor souls stuck inside. If players aren't quick, not only can the two people stuck inside die but the player and the party can die as well. For this reason, gamers will need to execute a very careful plan to rescue both of the victims.

Updated August 20, 2024, by Hamza Haq: Waukeen's Rest is one of the major locations in Act 1, and the place where players meet Councellor Florrick for the very first time, a character whose story continues in Act 3. Saving both NPCs stuck in the fire can be difficult as the route to freedom is not very clear, and the fire can spread deceptively quickly, killing both. This guide has been updated with a better way to save Benryn as well as all valuable items found in Waukeen's Rest.

This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Saving Counsellor Florrick

Baldur's Gate 3 Saving Counsellor Florrick From Fire
  1. Cast the Misty Step spell to get to Counsellor Florrick.
  2. Speak to Counsellor Florrick.
  3. Destroy the Shatter Wine Barrel with spells.

The biggest trick here is that the Shattered Wine Barrel, as of this writing, can only be destroyed with spells. It is immune to ranged and melee physical attacks. It does not need to be the character who saves Counsellor Florrick that destroys the barrel, it can be destroyed from safety outside by any caster in the party. Change party members and use anybody that has Misty Step to make this rescue.

Baldur's Gate 3: 12 Spells To Avoid

Some of Baldur's Gate 3's spells, despite their promising descriptions, fall flat when cast. Here's what players shouldn't invest in as casters.

Saving Benryn

  1. Destroy the wooden door blocking Benryn.
  2. Enter Turn-Based Mode.
  3. Talk to Benryn.
  4. Wait for him to walk out.

Enter the building Benryn is in (west of the main fountain) and use the stairs. You'll see Mirileth's body as soon as you reach the second floor. The door next to her leads to Benryn, who is hiding behind a breakable wooden door.

The fire will not spread in this building until after players break this wooden door. Benryn is not in any danger before this point, so take a beat to plan properly.

Break the door using spell attacks or melee hits. As soon as it breaks, enter Turn Based Mode. Use the Jump action to reach Benryn past the rubble and use your highest Strength character to pass the check to lift the beam off of him. Lift the beam by passing either the Strength or Investigation check. Click on Exit TB mode (Shift + Space), and Benryn will immediately walk out towards Mirileth's corpse. Talk to him to progress the "Rescue the Trapped Man" quest to find the dowry.

The door will explode when it is broken, dealing thunder and fire damage to anyone caught in the blast. Make sure to move your party away beforehand.

Best Classes To Multiclass In Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur's Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules, which allows for some creative character build ideas...

All Valuable Items In Waukeen's Rest

There are only a few items worth looting in this location.

The Joltshooter / The Sparky Points / The Spellsparkler

These three weapons are possible rewards for saving Councellor Florrick from the burning building. Players can only claim one out of the three. Talk to Florrick outside the building to claim the prize.

Hamarhraft

The Hamarhraft is an enchanted Maul that can be found inside a gilded chest on the top floor of the building. It can be obtained easily by waiting for the fire to die out before exploring the buildings. This can be done by Long Resting after saving Benry and Florrick.

Long Resting before saving Benryn and Florrick will fail both their quests.

Faded Drow Leather Armor

Found on the body of a Dead Drow Raider in the main courtyard, next to the building where Benryn is located.

Svartlebee's Woundseeker

The Svartlebee's Woundseeker can only be obtained by killing and looting Gauntlet Yeva, one of the Flaming Fists trying to push open the door blocking the way to Councellor Florrick. This will turn all NPCs in the area hostile. It cannot be pickpocketed.
