As players investigate the Absolute in Baldur's Gate 3, their journey will take them to Priestess Gut, a Goblin who also has a parasite inside of her and a connection to illithid powers. She's a mix of evil and brainwashed due to her condition but she does offer an intriguing option when meeting her.
She's branding "True Ones" with the parasite with the Mark of the Absolute. This is little more than a cosmetic burn into the character's flesh. But as with many things in Baldur's Gate 3, there are potential rewards and penalties for making this decision that aren't immediately apparent.
This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.
Should Players Get The Mark Of The Absolute?
- It is highly recommended players get the Mark of the Absolute.
- With the mark, gamers have access to exclusive gear and extra roleplaying options.
- The brand is on the palm of the hand and easy to hide and reveal at will.
Priestess Gut will only brand one person, so be sure to switch party members and use the one that will do most of the talking and needs the most gear. The advantages greatly outweigh any perceived disadvantages since the character can choose to show and hide the brand at will.
There is something to be said for personal taste. In a game where players can change the colors of armor and clothing, preference should be at the forefront. A hardline character who doesn't want to ever give the illusion of falling into a cult might reject the brand for story purposes.
If all players care about is functionality, then it's highly recommended to get the brand. The Mark of the Absolute does not affect the player's mind or control the character's actions. It opens up new dialogue choices and there are equipment pieces that can only be received by getting the brand.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available now for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be available on September 6th, 2023. A version for Xbox Series X/S is still in development.
