Throughout his life (and even beyond), Ketheric Thorm of Baldur's Gate 3 has looked to three very different gods for answers. His motivation being the loss of his daughter is understandable, but the actions he performed for the sake of two evil gods aren't.
But while players must defeat Thorm to get past Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3, the protagonist can try to reach him one last time before the big boss battle begins. The question is, is this effort useful, or is it wasted? What do players gain from trying to redeem Thorm? Compared to other choices in Baldur's Gate 3, the answer is fairly straightforward.

Baldur's Gate 3: House of Hope Guide
Players who want to challenge Raphael and end his contract must first explore his House of Hope.
Updated on April 15, 2024, by Nahda Nabiilah: Defeating Ketheric Thorm is not an impossible task to perform in Baldur’s Gate 3, but players can make this boss fight easier by convincing the lost soul to redeem his actions. To achieve this, players need to learn about Ketheric Thorm's past life and events, which led him to make such horrible decisions. Clues are found inside Moonrise Towers, specifically within Thorm’s chamber and Isobel’s old room. Discovering Ketheric’s tragic backstory will aid players in persuading him to atone for his actions and skip a phase of the boss fight in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Rooftop Confrontation
When players reach the rooftop after removing the source of his immortality, Thorm will speak to the party. Two of the possible answers are skill checks, including a DC 21 Intimidation check and a much easier DC 10 Persuasion check. However, to unlock the Persuasion check, players must investigate Moonrise Towers thoroughly and discover what happened to Ketheric's wife, Melodia. The Intimidation check leads to another skill check against a DC 30, but Baldur's Gate 3 players can choose between Persuasion, Intimidation, and Deception. On the other hand, the Melodia check requires no further rolls.
Unfortunately, a boss battle will begin no matter what players choose or how many skill rolls they beat. Thorm will retreat once his health drops to around half, and after that players must mop up the remaining Necromites. The real benefit to passing these checks comes later when players confront Thorm again in the Mind Flayer Colony.
