Baldur's Gate 3 is all about questing all over Faerun with a group of colorful characters. Each Baldur's Gate 3 companion has a rich backstory with a lot of quests attached, including the vampire spawn named Astarion. In his quest chain, players learn about the heaps of abuse that have been piled onto him by his master, Cazador.
If players follow Astarion's quest until the end, they will get to invade Cazador's Palace, destroy his guards, and murder the scheming lord in his own home. In order to get to the vampire master, however, players will first need to get past the sinister door.
The Sinister Door in the Szarr Palace in Baldur's Gate 3
As Baldur's Gate 3 players enter the Szarr Palace, they will come across an immense door they need to open. It's sealed with a magical lock covered in unreadable runes, and it glows with a sinister red light. In order to get through, players will need to grab two important items: a signet ring and a book. Both of these can be found by exploring some of the other rooms nearby.
Where to Find the Signet Ring in BG3's Szarr Palace
The signet ring needed to unlock the Sinister Door is locked in the "kennel," where Astarion and his siblings were locked up when they misbehaved, located X: -1285, Y:985. The door is hidden, but a simple perception check will see through this illusion. It's almost guaranteed that someone in every party will figure it out. Inside this room, players can find an undead skeleton named Godey. Killing him or tricking him will get players the signet ring, but they need another item to help them actually get through the sinister door: a way to read the inscription on the door.
How to Read the Inscription on the Sinister Door in Baldur's Gate 3
In this massive co-op RPG, there is a Kozakuran Dictionary located inside the lower floor of the palace; if players pick it up and read it, it will teach them how to pronounce the words on the door. This dictionary is in Victoria's room, the room that is emanating necrotic energy (X:-1289, Y:959). When searching for it, players should bring someone along who can dispel the curse on the body or have some potions that will help to negate the effects of the curse. Turn on turn-based mode to make this all a little easier and to help characters take less damage from the curse.
The dictionary will be inside one of the dressers next to the head of the bed. Opening up the dresser and looting the book, players should make sure to have a character read the Kozakuran Dictionary. Once it's read, they can head back upstairs to the sinister door. Interacting with it will give the option to put the signet ring in the door. It will open after that, and there will be a big fight on the other side.
Baldur's Gate 3 is available for PC. A PS5 version is set to release on September 6th, and an Xbox Series X/S version is currently in development.
