Harry Bosch's Solo Stories Could Continue For Another Decade With Michael Connelly and Titus Welliver Far From Done With The Character

Michael Connelly hasn't finished writing Harry Bosch stories in his book series yet, and Titus Welliver has repeatedly said he'll play the character for as long as possible. Bosch and Bosch: Legacy might have collectively featured Harry Bosch investigating crimes for over a decade now, but the character isn't close to being done. At the end of the original series, Bosch hands over his LAPD badge, but he is far from retired, and in Bosch: Legacy, he becomes a private investigator and this opened up the floodgates for plenty more Bosch-led stories. Harry Bosch is just as active in his post LAPD career, albeit a little bit older, but also wiser. He no longer has the constraints of following the letter of the law, and his character has become much darker and more compelling, so it poses the question: Why stop now?

There is plenty more source material from Michael Connelly's book series to keep Bosch: Legacy going for many more years to come. Each season typically adapts two of Connelly's books, but there isn't a requirement to stick to the source material indefinitely. Honey Chandler's role in the books is vastly different to Mimi Rogers' portrayal of the character in Bosch and Bosch: Legacy. Not to mention, Maddie Bosch has become more prominent in the book series thanks to her increased presence in the television series. There's no reason why Harry Bosch's solo stories need to stick to the book series, as the creative team behind Bosch: Legacy have essentially created their own narrative that can arguably go in whatever direction it wants to.

If there weren't any more stories to tell about Harry Bosch, there would be no need for him to turn up in the Ballard series. However, that isn't the case, and he'll play a part in the Maggie Q-led spin-off series. In fact, the spin-off should technically be a joint Bosch/Ballard show, if Michael Connelly's book series is adapted properly. Of course, as stated, changes can occur during the journey from book to television screens, as it has done in Bosch and Bosch's Legacy's case. However, relegating Harry Bosch to a bit part player is a pretty drastic change to make in the spin-off series. In an interview for his book club, Connelly discussed his plans for his final ever novel:

Hopefully the last book I write is Harry as lead character and not as a supporting character behind these two women.

Harry Bosch has teamed up with Renee Ballard in Michael Connelly's more recent books, but the legendary author clearly has plans for at least one more solo Bosch story to complete his book series. Everything circles back to Harry Bosch, so surely that means Bosch: Legacy should have at least one more season left to complete his story. However, this final story is a long way off, so in the meantime, Bosch: Legacy could adapt more of Michael Connelly's already published books in the lead up to Harry Bosch's final story in many years to come. Bosch: Legacy and Ballard could feature crossovers for the next few years, as this was initially the plan before Amazon canceled the parent series. This could also open the door for the Jerry Edgar spin-off to come back into the equation after it was axed. Build the universe, and the fans will come along for the ride. Guest spots in Ballard won't be enough for Harry Bosch's character arc to be completed in any meaningful way. Titus Welliver will play the iconic ex LAPD detective in just three episodes of Ballard's debut season, so Bosch's last proper appearance will be in the Bosch: Legacy season 3 finale.
