The Call of Duty franchise often introduces brand-new innovations in a bid to keep Activision's shooter series feeling fresh. For Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, there are plenty of new features for players to master.
Alongside the arrival of Omnimovement and the Jackal PDW, which has already risen to the top of the meta, players can utilize a dedicated loadout slot for a melee weapon. Despite this, many are struggling to pull out their combat knives in the heat of battle. Here, find out how to equip a knife in Black Ops 6 multiplayer matches.

CoD Black Ops 6 & Warzone: Best C9 Loadout
The C9 is an excellent Submachine Gun in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 & Warzone. Here is the best loadout for this viable weapon.
How To Equip The Knife In Black Ops 6
Unlike previous Call of Duty titles, players can't switch to the knife by using the standard buttons to swap weapons. Instead, there's a new button to press in order to access the knife, which excels in extremely close-quarters combat.
Below is how to equip the knife during a match:
- Keyboard and Mouse: Press and hold 'V'
- Controller: Hold the melee button (R3/RS or B/Circle)
Players can change the binding of the melee key within the Black Ops 6 options, while those using a controller can alternate between the default and tactical layouts.
After holding down the button for a few seconds, the in-game character will switch to the knife from whichever gun was being used previously. To return to using the other weapons in the loadout, press and hold the melee button again or the weapon swap button.
Why Use The Knife In Black Ops 6?
When using a knife in Black Ops 6, players benefit from the ability to eliminate opponents with a swift swipe when they get too close for comfort.
In addition, the melee weapon drastically increases movement speed, allowing players to sprint around every map as quickly as possible. Considering that there are scenarios where faster movement speed allows players to escape tricky situations, having access to a knife at all times is an extremely useful tool to have in the back pocket — along with two primary and secondary weapons capable of making an impact at longer distances.
For now, the knife is the only melee weapon available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but as the cycle progresses and Treyarch decides to expand the weapon arsenal, the chances of the developer adding even more weapons into the category is high. Melee weapons are often overlooked but should never be underestimated in hectic situations where players are sliding and diving all over the place.
