Black Ops 6 brings back round-based Zombies, featuring a diverse range of maps for players to explore. While some may be attempting to complete their very first Easter Egg quest or beat their highest round, others might be figuring out the best way to upgrade their arsenal.
Players can set up their own custom weapon builds and load into each match with their preferred loadouts. However, acquiring Essence is essential to purchase Perks, upgrade weapons via the Pack-a-Punch, and open barriers. Essence is the main currency in Zombies, and there are several ways players can farm it effectively.

CoD Black Ops 6 Zombies: 10 Best Loadouts
Players can customize their loadouts in Black Ops 6 Zombies to great effect. Here are some of the best loadouts and weapon builds for the mode.
Getting Critical Kills
The first and arguably the best way to farm Essence is by getting critical kills. While critical kills are great for dealing increased damage and taking down zombies and other foes much faster, they also yield the most Essence per kill. A standard zombie kill with a firearm rewards players with 90 Essence, and a melee kill offers 105. Critical kills, on the other hand, provide 115 Essence per kill, with those on Elite Enemies yielding even more.
Naturally, to maximize their Essence gain, players will want to focus on headshots for zombies. With that in mind, opting for attachments like the CHF Barrel, along with acquiring Deadshot Daiquiri and Augments like Dead Head, can be quite helpful, as each boosts critical damage. Training zombies, lining them up, and firing at their heads is also a great method, as doing so can cut down on wasting ammunition.
Completing SAM Trials
The next method of getting a hold of lots of Essence is to complete SAM Trials. SAM Trials are unique events that spawn at random locations on every map in Black Ops 6 Zombies, with their locations displayed both on-screen and on the tac map for players to track. SAM Trials can be activated for 750 to 1,000 Essence, and once activated, players will be tasked with completing a random challenge.
Not only will each SAM Trial spawn additional zombies for players to farm Essence from, but players can also get their hands on lucrative rewards from the trial's reward chest upon completion. The better players perform at each challenge, the higher the rarity of loot they can acquire. While Perks, equipment, weapons, Aether Tools, and Atherium Crystals are some of the rarer rewards, each reward crate has a high chance of containing extra Essence, making completing the trial well worth the effort.

While Pack-a-Punch Camos are a neat cosmetic change, they can be disabled altogether in Black Ops 6 Zombies.
Completing Specific Easter Eggs
While the aforementioned methods offer players a steady stream of Essence, those looking to earn a large sum of Essence can complete specific Easter Eggs on each Zombies map. While new Easter Eggs are regularly being discovered, here are some notable ones that reward players with Essence as of Season 1 Reloaded:
- Basketball Easter Egg (Terminus): Shoot the basketball on the roof of the Living Quarters above Juggernog with a Pack-a-Punched weapon so that it lands in the basketball hoop on the other side. Rewards players with 2,000 Essence upon completion, which can be doubled with the Double Points Power-Up.
- Fish Spots (Terminus): Using explosives on fish spots commonly drops Essence. Other rewards such as Perks, Wonder Weapons, and a free Perkaholic can also be acquired this way.
- Vending Machine (Liberty Falls): Meleeing the vending machine at the Motor Lodge Motel once per round can drop Essence. Destroying it with Melee Macchiato can also yield a bigger Essence reward, along with a potential Ray Gun.
- Wishing Well Easter Egg (Citadelle Des Morts): Head to the wishing well at Ascent Village and kill the Vermin that climbs out, during a special round, to get 1,000 Essence when tossing a grenade down the well. In subsequent rounds, players can deposit earned Essence down the well and retrieve it with a grenade during a special round to either double it with a Double Points Power-Up or share it with squadmates.
- Rat King Easter Egg (Citadelle Des Morts): Loot the cheese at the Town Square and locate 10 rats around the map. All the rats will gather around a plate in the Oubliette Room. Placing the cheese on the plate drops various rewards, including Essence.
Looting Perk Machines & Pool Tables
For players looking to earn a little extra Essence during the earlier rounds, looting Perk Machines can be a reliable method. Acquiring loose change from Perk Machines has been a staple in Zombies for a while now, and if players go prone near each Perk Machine, they can earn a one-time reward of 100 Essence per machine.
Similarly, players can gain a one-time reward of 100 Essence by shooting the cue ball on the pool tables featured on every map. These pool tables can be found in the following locations:
- Liberty Falls: Inside the Liberty Lanes Bowling Alley.
- Terminus: Located within the Living Quarters.
- Citadelle Des Morts: Found in the Tavern at the Town Square.
Bonus Points & Double Points Power-Ups
The final way for players to earn extra Essence is by acquiring the Bonus Points or Double Points Power-Ups. Bonus Points reward players with 500 Essence upon collection, while Double Points allow players to earn double the amount of Essence for a limited time. While these Power-Ups can drop randomly by eliminating zombies, they can also be found in designated locations as part of each map's free Power-Up offerings.
