We Need Switch Skills Back in Monster Hunter Wilds
If there's anything I'm hoping for in a potential MH Wilds expansion, it's the return of Switch Skills, remade to work with the current combat system. I realized how much I missed Slikbind Sakura Slash while replaying Rise, but at the same time, I wished I was still able to use Wilds' new Crimson Slash Long Sword combos and Focus mode's mid-combo aiming.
Monster Hunter Wilds Should Be Called Monster "Slayer" Wilds
I love?Monster Hunter Wilds, don't get me wrong, but there isn't a lot of actual hunting involved, especially not compared to?Monster Hunter World?and other previous iterations in the series. I'm not a big fan of the Seikret's auto-pathing, I miss the feeling of tracking down a monster before fighting it. Right now the game is kind of just back-to-back monster fights, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but there was something cool about having to learn about your target and spend time preparing.
Monster Hunter World Does A Better Job At Map Design Than Wilds
Surely I'm not the only one who thinks the maps in Monster Hunter World are better than the ones in Wilds. While I think Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest are awesome, the rest feel a bit too similar to each other, like they're caves and tunnels of different flavors. The maps in MH World, on the other hand, all feel distinct.
Arkveld is the Best Flagship Monster in Monster Hunter So Far
Apart from Arkveld being really cool in general, the fight itself just feels perfect. The monster's moves are well-paced and (mostly) well-telegraphed, and it gives all of Monster Hunter Wilds' new combat mechanics equal chances to shine.
The Platinum Trophy Grind for Monster Hunter Wilds Is Kind Of Annoying
I've played every Monster Hunter game since the PSP days (for the most part), and I've never tried to 100% them... until now. But, there are some trophies on the MH Wilds list that I just cannot stand. The first is the trophy for catching not 10, not 20, but 30 Whoppers. Also, the crown hunting trophies are just taking me such a long time to work through.
The Sword and Shield is the Best Weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds
I've been using a Long Sword ever since I started Monster Hunter Wilds, but even I would agree that the SnS is the bestweapon in the game simply due to how versatile it is. This weapon type deals excellent damage, and it can do everything that other melee weapons can one way or another. It's simply amazing.
Monster Hunter Wilds Could Explain Monster HP Mechanics Better
I love that?Monster Hunter?sticks to its guns and has never added a monster HP bar to the games. There's something really neat about hunting down a monster and paying attention to its physical appearance and movements to determine how damaged it is. But?Monster Hunter Wilds?doesn't do a great job at explaining this to new players, and I feel like the game could use a few extra tutorials or pop-ups that explain what to look for (like limping, broken parts, etc).
Monster Hunter Wilds' Switch Axe Is The Best The Weapon Has Ever Felt
I have been a Switch Axe main since I first played?Monster Hunter World, and I absolutely love how it feels in?Monster Hunter Wilds. The Full Release Slash is an extremely powerful and flashy backbone to the build, which now flows effortlessly between forms to maximize gauges. I can't imagine going back to previous?Monster Hunter?games without its Offset Attacks, too.
I Miss The Jolly Vibe of Previous Monster Hunter Games
Monster Hunter Wilds is much more somber in a lot of departments, from the washed-out colors to the environment designs and background music. I don't think this is particularly bad, but I do miss how energetic and upbeat World and Rise felt in comparison.
I Am Praying They Bring Amatsu Into Monster Hunter Wilds
It's crazy how a monster that's known for literally controlling the weather isn't present in a Monster Hunter game that has the most advanced weather system so far. Fighting an Amatsu in Wilds is sure to be a spectacle, provided the technical demand for it doesn't destroy everyone's computers and consoles in the process.
Compared To Other Games in the Franchise, Combat in Monster Hunter Wilds Feels So Much Better
Combat has never felt so smooth in a Monster Hunter game before. Almost every weapon now has more movement options, and the addition of Offset Attacks, Perfect Guard, and Perfect Dodge in Wilds has proved to be an excellent decision. I only wish Wilds had the same extensive bestiary as World and Rise.
Monster Hunter Wilds Would Be Better With Rise's Quick Sheathe 3
Quick Sheathe 3 in Monster Hunter Rise made Longsword's Special Sheath feel extremely snappy, and I can understand why they nerfed it in Monster Hunter Wilds. I'd love to get that same snappiness back, but that might end up making the Longsword a bit too strong.?
Offset Attacks in Monster Hunter WIlds Should Be A New Series Staple
Knocking down a rampaging lion-dog-bear with a greatsword uppercut feels absolutely sublime. I seriously wish Offset Attacks become a new staple move for future Monster Hunter games, much like how the Longsword's Special Sheathe became a key part of that weapon's identity.
Monster Hunter Wilds' Campaign Is Too Easy, And That's Fine
I've heard a lot of complaints about Monster Hunter Wilds' campaign being too easy, but that's kind of the point. Low Rank quests have always served as training wheels, after all. However, I'm disappointed that fights in High Rank don't really get much harder outside a few specific monsters, though this may be because I'm already a long-time MH player.?
Monster Hunter Feels Incomplete Without Elder Dragons
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm disappointed that I didn't get to fight a Kushala Daora in Monster Hunter Wilds. Some are probably on the way as we speak considering Capcom's pseudo-live service approach to the game, but it's still weird that we don't get a single Elder Dragon on the release version.
Monster Hunter Wilds Should Allow More Control Rebind Options
I'm getting used to it on the PS5, but having the dodge on X (rather than my more comfortable Circle) is really throwing me — especially in those panic moments during a fight! Really wish I could rebind that one specifically.
What Was Your First Monster Hunter Game?
My first Monster Hunter game is actually going to be Monster Hunter Wilds! I've never played one before, but I've been in a bit of a game funk (unsure what to play next, nothing quite hitting), and I'm getting swept up in the Monster Hunter Wilds excitement.
What Would You Rate Monster Hunter Wilds Out Of 10?
I've put about 10 hours into the game so far, and I would give it a really strong 8 out of 10. Fighting monsters, the combat system, the way weapons play – all of that feels incredible?and exactly what I want from a Monster Hunter game. But I miss the feeling of hunting down monsters yourself instead of riding a Seikret directly to your objective, and I wish the PC version of the game was more stable, too. What are your thoughts on the game? If you want to contribute to the GR Community score, feel free to leave a review on the Monster Hunter Wilds page!
What Game Did You Play The Most This Month? (February 2025)
Oh man, there were a LOT of games I played in February this year. It might have been the most stacked month for game releases in recent memory, at least in the genres I like to play.?Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Civ 7, Avowed, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Monster Hunter Wilds all came out in the last month alone.? If I had more time with?Monster Hunter Wilds?I think I would have put in a hundred hours over the course of the month – I put in 10 hours on launch day, somehow. But because it launched on the last day of Feb, the game I played the most last month ended up being?Civilization 7?at around 40 hours total.?
Using Dual Blades in Monster Hunter Wilds Feels Like Cheating
The Dual Blades have always been easy to use, but with how generous their invincibility frames are when dodging in Wilds, it feels like I'm playing a different game when I'm using DBs on a hunt.
