Dead by Daylight's new Resident Evil crossover is finally playable thanks to the game's Public Test Build, where players are free to try out the new characters and changes for a limited time. New survivors and a villain from the Resident Evil franchise as well as lots of new perks and features are also coming with Dead by Daylight's 6.2.0 update.
Dead by Daylight, developed by Behaviour Interactive, is an asymmetric survival horror game that initially released back in 2016, though a constant flow of updates and new content has kept the game relevant over its impressive six-year run. The game is both a commercial and critical success within the genre, boasting nearly 350,000 favorable reviews on Steam while maintaining a healthy population of players. An ever-growing cast of Survivors and Killers that are frequently pulled from beloved horror franchises such as Dead by Daylight's Halloween crossover and the addition of Ghost Face from Scream provides fans with a rare opportunity to see their favorite characters in a new setting.
The new survivors coming to Dead by Daylight are recognizable from the classic Resident Evil franchise of survivor horror games. Ada Wong is a recurring Resident Evil character mainly encountered in Resident Evil 2, 4, and 6. As a cunning spy, her perks include Wiretap, which reveals the Killer when it's near a generator she's repaired, and Low Profile, which hides her scratch marks and pools of blood. Rebecca Chambers, featured in Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0, brings her extensive medical knowledge to Dead by Daylight, with support perks such as Better Than New which gives healed survivors a speed boost, and Reassurance which helps survivors deal with the "struggling" mechanic.
The new killer, The Mastermind, otherwise known as Albert Wesker, is another major recurring character from Resident Evil. Infected with a prototype virus, Wesker has been given superhuman strength and abilities which are reflected in his perk loadout. Superior Anatomy improves his vault speed whenever a nearby survivor performs a vault, and Awakened Awareness lets him see the auras of nearby survivors while carrying a survivor. His Terminus perk inflicts injured survivors with the Broken status effect when exit gates are powered.
The Public Test for Dead By Daylight's Resident Evil crossover is taking place from August 9 to August 15, giving players plenty of time to try out the new characters before the update is expected to go live in September or October. New streamer options that hide the player's identity along with HUD indicators for player ping are also welcome quality-of-life additions that players can look forward to in the new build.
Dead by Daylight is available on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
