A new rumor has surfaced online that Bungie is beginning work on Destiny 3. However, there has been no official confirmation, as this is tinfoil hat territory and should be treated as such, but the details that surfaced alongside this rumor are intriguing to say the least.

All of this information is provided by the well-known and respected Reddit Insider, AnonTheNine. He went on to reveal that Chris Barrett is the game director, though Luke Smith will still have a big role. According to this user, Destiny 3 will be much more geared toward hardcore fans and have plenty of features that haven't appeared in previous games. One of these is a playable location, Europa, that was first teased all the way back in 2013.

Moreover,?Destiny 3 is supposed to have even more RPG elements in contrast with vanilla Destiny 2.?More specifically, it appears that Guardians will be able to use the Darkness in some ways, though further details were not provided. The last big reveal was that there would be open world areas with PvP and PvE content where players can fight to conquer territory.

AnonTheNine also revealed there would be a new annual pass in 2019, which isn't that surprising. But it is worth noting that players can likely expect more Destiny 2 DLC through 2019, with the rumored Destiny 3 set to launch sometime around 2020. Regardless, it's worth adding that this could be around the time that next-gen consoles launch, so it wouldn't be surprising if D3 was actually a next-gen launch title.

Whatever the case may be when it comes to Destiny 3's development, players should take this information with a healthy grain of salt. Nevertheless, many would likely be excited to see this rumor come to fruition. In the meantime, though, Destiny 2 players still have a lot on their hands, especially if the Curse Weeks actually do last for seven cycles.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
