A new expansion pass for Disney Dreamlight Valley was announced last month at the 2024 Disney Dreamlight Valley Showcase stream. The new Storybook Vale DLC will be released in two parts, with its first half already out for purchase on November 20. However, fans attempting to purchase the new Disney Dreamlight Valley DLC had some issues, leading to frustration and controversy among players.

Despite the DLC’s announcement being relatively recent, fans quickly became excited about its offerings. Disney Dreamlight Valley currently has only one other expansion pass, A Rift in Time, which was released in December 2023. The DLC added five characters to the game; EVE from WALL-E, Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, Jafar from Aladdin, Rapunzel from Tangled, and one of Disney’s oldest characters, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. However, one part of the DLC has taken its time showing up in players' Valleys, resulting in numerous fan complaints.

Welcome to the Vale Has Lots of Additions

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s new Storybook Vale Expansion Pass will be released in two parts. The first part, Welcome to the Vale, was released on November 20. The second half, The Unwritten Realms, will be released sometime in Summer 2025. Details on this second drop are scarce, but Maleficent is a confirmed character for the DLC.

Welcome to the Vale promises the introduction of three characters; Merida from Pixar’s Brave, Hades from Hercules, and Flynn Rider from Tangled. Additionally, three new biomes, the Bind, Everafter, and Mythtopia, were added in the DLC. Players work with Merida and Flynn Rider to defeat Hades. A new Royal Tool, the Royal Net, was also added in this expansion pass. The tool can be used to capture Snippets, new origami-esque paper animals that feature similar gameplay mechanics to Critters.

Storybook Vale Special Editions and Exclusive Items

With the announcement of the DLC, Gameloft also announced new editions of Disney Dreamlight Valley available for purchase. The Storybook Vale DLC on its own starts at $29.99. However, a Magical Edition of the DLC priced at $49.99 includes the DLC and tacks on exclusive items like the Autumn Manor House Style, Storybook Vale Dress & Ensemble, a Baby Pegasus Companion & House, and 10,000 Moonstones, a form of in-game currency. An Enchanted Edition of the game is available for $79.99 which includes the aforementioned items, both of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s expansion passes, the base game, and 18,000 Moonstones.

Gameloft received some flack for their depiction of Flynn Rider when promo images for the Storybook Vale DLC first dropped. However, this latest controversy has nothing to do with the character’s appearance. Instead, players who purchased Disney Dreamlight Valley’s new Magical Edition are missing some key content.

Premium Items Were Never Mailed to the Valley

Three hours after the new Storybook Vale DLC was released, players who purchased the new Magical Edition were missing at least 5,000 Moonstones and all the edition’s exclusive bonus items. In the past, bonuses were typically delivered to players via Disney Dreamlight Valley’s in-game Mailbox system.

This was supposed to be the case for today’s drop as well, but players were left unsatisfied for several hours. The missing content drew heavy criticism from players, though Disney Dreamlight Valley promised to resolve the issue as announced by a post on X (formerly Twitter). Storybook Vale’s Magical Edition was temporarily delisted as Gameloft investigated the issue.

At 4pm PST/ 7pm EST on November 20, Disney Dreamlight Valley posted yet again on X informing players that “A fix has been deployed to resolve the issue where Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Storybook Vale - Magical Edition Moonstones and exclusive bundle content items were delayed for some players.” These players were then instructed to close and restart their game before checking their in-game mailbox for their promised rewards.

Though the DLC’s release may have had a rough start, conclusive fan reception surrounding the Welcome to the Vale chapter of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s new Storybook Vale Expansion Pass should spread in the coming days. Players that would like to add Hades, Merida, and Flynn Rider to their game can purchase this new DLC for Disney Dreamlight Valley starting at $29.99 now.
