The Dragon Ball Super anime has been on an indefinite hiatus since the last episode aired back in 2018 and as of March 2024, following the passing of the legendary Akira Toriyama, the manga has also taken a sabbatical, with its date of return still unannounced. Due to this, fans of the franchise have been eagerly anticipating any new addition that keeps the story going, in any form it may take; whether anime or manga.
However, some good news awaits fans of Dragon Ball. A brand-new anime by the name of Dragon Ball Daima is set to begin airing on the 11th of October 2024 and is considered to be a part of the official canon of the series, so it carries on the official story of Dragon Ball, presumably from where the last iteration left off. So, let's take a closer look at what Daima has in store and how it could change the face of the entire franchise.

Future Trunks' introduction to the Dragon Ball franchise was completely unexpected. However, he left as a fan favorite who everyone loved.

What Daima has in store
Though the story itself remains a mystery and will stay as such until the series airs, quite a bit of it can be surmised by examining the few trailers that have been released. Much in the vein of the Dragon Ball GT series, Daima also has Goku revert to his child self, though this time, almost all the other Z-Fighters do so as well. It is shown that this is done through someone using the Dragon Balls to make the wish to do so.
The events surrounding this wish and how the adventure will play out remain a mystery for now, but it seems the wish to turn everyone back into a child somehow also removed the incredible powers they had accumulated throughout the series, making them far weaker. Due to this, the villains of the story can end up achieving their goals, since the characters with godlike powers no longer pose as much of a threat to stop them.
No one is left to threaten you...
A look at mysterious locations:
One of the most notable aspects that can be seen throughout the trailers for Daima is that Goku visits the Demon Realm; a strange and dangerous plain of reality that exists separately from the universe, implying that it is either just as big or similar in size. It's so vast and mysterious that not even the Supreme Kais have any influence or knowledge of it.
With Daima finally shedding some light on the Demon Realm that was hinted at early on in the original Dragon Ball series, fans could perhaps expect some things from the series that they have never seen before. Although this realm was a central plot point in the non-canon Super Dragon Ball Heroes series, its canon origins and details have never truly been explored.
They have only been hinted towards with characters such as Shula and Dabura, as well as some of its denizens being mentioned such as the Majins, Ogres, or Demons themselves. Not only does Daima give fans a chance to see a fantastical new area and meet interesting new races, but it also opens the chance to introduce dozens of new and captivating characters who are very different from what fans have been seeing from the series up until now.

Ultra Ego was Vegeta's answer to Goku's Ultra Instinct. Though it's just as powerful, let's see some of its major flaws.
How Daima Can Influence The Series
What this means for the future of the franchise
Since Daima will be unlocking a new reality for the series to explore, this also gives it a chance to have much more far-reaching consequences for the future of the franchise. Since the Demon Realm is still very elusive and details of it within the canon of the series remain vague, it's entirely possible that many of the residents of this reality are more powerful than anything the heroes have ever faced before.
When the heroes do eventually revert to their original states, they will then have to face the most powerful villains of this realm, which could even extend to a multiversal level. This way, older characters from Super could once again make their return to the franchise and unite in an attempt to destroy the threat of these Demons. Moreover, since such Demons would be different from most of the enemies the Z-Fighters have faced before, it could also open up a brand-new way for the heroes to fight.
The Demon King fears no mortal, although I admit they were stronger than I thought.
The possibilities are almost endless for where the overarching story could go from here. The influence of the events of Daima could even have dire implications for the multiverse, essentially acting as an entirely different thing to what the reality of the current timeline is, perhaps even introducing an alternate multiversal hierarchy to the one that currently exists in the world, planting the seeds for a massive conflict to end the franchise once and for all. Although this is nothing but theorizing and wishful thinking right now, Daima holds the key to influencing the future of Dragon Ball.
