The Tamagami's Purpose

Why They Do What They Do

For each Dragon Ball that Goku and company must find, a total of three, they must also contend with potentially one Tamagami for each. The Tamagami from here on are differentiated by the number of stars on the Dragon Ball they guard. Tamagami Number 3 guards the three-star ball, and Tamagami Number 2 guards the two-star ball and so on, but they all have individual strengths, weaknesses, and potentially other tests of wits and smarts. With the information revealed that these three were created by the creator of said Dragon Balls, one might be inclined to wonder why they are being guarded at all.

The previous Dragon Balls have never needed this much protection, although to be fair, they were 7 balls spread out over an entire planet. This makes finding Earth Dragon Balls almost impossible without radar, and the Namekian Dragon Balls still had the same issue as well. However, with the Three Demon Realm Dragon Balls, they seemed to be easily located and stationary for about a good amount of time that everybody knows where they are. After all, if they truly are strong enough to be guardians of the Dragon Balls, then it makes sense that they have protected them for so long that everybody in the Demon Realm knows where they are, but have not been able to succeed.

While each Tamagami and Dragon Ball reside in one of the Three Demon Worlds, not many people remember how powerful said Dragon Balls are or what they can or can't wish. The reason for this is that their creator, an old Namekian Elder named Nevah, understood that there would be a variety of evil individuals looking to exploit the Dragon Balls, so he instead made sure to create the Tamagami to potentially prevent the wrong person from getting a wish. With this intention, it makes sense why the Tamagami purpose is clear. They have to protect the Dragon Balls from evil individuals, and their strength has been enough to do so for an unprecedented amount of time. However, with that said, how strong are they in comparison to the rest?

Power and Wits

The Requirements

To put it quite honestly, Goku and Vegeta have both been handicapped by being turned into children. However, that isn't to say they aren't able to handle the Tamagami. Even so, it bears mentioning that the Tamagami are no pushovers. After all, it seems that the Tamagami are strong enough to be considered stronger than most individuals in the Demon Realm, if not all but a handful. So much so that, the Supreme Demon King Gomah isn't willing to take care of it himself. However, that doesn't speak much about the Tamagami.

So we shift our focus to the fights that Goku and Vegeta have had with Tamagami Number 3 and Number 2 respectively. These fights in particular showed the weapon mastery of the Tamagami, as well as their personalities and how emotive these guardians can be. Tamagami 3 is boisterous and loud, but he also enjoys a fair fight, which is why he had a good time competing with Goku. The Tamagami proved to be so powerful that it survived a Kamehameha from a Super Saiyan 2 Goku. That much power was enough to make it surrender and move on to the next phase.

The next phase, in particular, seems to be a possible shared connection with the Tamagami, but so far, it has been confirmed with Tamagami Number 3. The idea that they also test your wits, as Tamagami Number 3 tested Goku's ability to keep up with him by hiding the Dragon Ball in one cup, and cleverly finding out the twist of where the Dragon Ball was.

This proves that these Tamagami won't only test or bow to the power of their opponent, but also the heart as well as their wits. We still don't know all the details of Tamagami Number 2 and Number 1, but they may have the same angle for their tests. This in of itself is impressive and interesting to learn about once you realize that the Tamagami are warrior robots essentially, instead of being mindless drones. Ultimately, speaking, Dragon Ball Daima has managed to provide the story with an interesting obstacle and lore drop of the Demon Realm's guardians of the Dragon Balls. Dragon Ball Daima is still ongoing, but soon enough the answers will be revealed about further information we need to know.
