There are a ton of new and old gameplay features in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Here's what new players need to know when starting their adventure.

It’s a fun system to experiment with in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake even though not all Vocations are created equally. Let’s go through and rank what Vocations players should try and master first to reap the benefits of their skills.

10 Gadabout

A Prelude To An Amazing Class

  • Best Ability: Whistle

The Gadabout is not that great of a Vocation but it can evolve into a better one. At level 20, it is the only Vocation that can naturally turn into a Sage in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake which can use both healing and offensive magic.

It’s not like Gadabouts are completely worthless until that time though. They have a great ability called Whistle which can prompt a random battle without having to rely on walking around to prompt something. In battle, Gadabouts are not that effective compared to many others.

9 Merchant

An Easy Way To Earn Gold

  • Best Ability: Service Call

The Merchant is not a strong offensive or support Vocation in battle either. However, it has some useful abilities and traits outside of battle that can help with the adventure. For example, having a Merchant in the party will increase the cash flow.

It’s hard to get money in the game which is why players need every advantage they can get early on in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake to get good equipment like armor. Also, Merchants have an ability called Service Call which can spawn a plethora of businesses for quick aid like shops which is nice to have.

8 Thief

Steal From The Best

  • Best Ability: Shocking Slash

The Thief is the first reliable Vocation that players should look into. Like the others so far, it’s not that strong in battle. However, there is a chance a Thief can steal an item automatically from an enemy at the end of battle.

Players can even get rare weapons early in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake through this method but it all depends on Luck. Besides the stealing factor, Thieves have some useful offensive skills too like the Shocking Slash. It deals a moderate amount of damage but it has a good chance to stun enemies and that includes bosses too.

7 Martial Artist

Punching Through Enemy Lines

  • Best Ability: Multifists

The Martial Artist excels in offense and speed which is typical for a Monk-like class in an RPG. It can strike hard and it has a high chance to hit enemies before they can act. Martial Artists have quite a few skills in battle to attack groups of enemies.

There are several side quests that players should complete early on in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Here's which ones not to skip.

There are also great skills like Multifists which can strike randomly at targets in battle. On a boss, those hits are more precise and players may even get lucky and score critical hits more often with a Martial Artist.

6 Warrior

A Classic RPG Archetype

  • Best Ability: Metal Slash

A Warrior is pretty close in terms of power next to a Martial Artist. What it lacks in speed it makes up for in defense. Warriors have a lot of useful skills that almost every party member should learn. For example, Metal Slash guarantees players can hit a Metal Slime.

Metal Slimes are rare monsters that are hard to find and even harder to hit but they dish out tons of EXP in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. That’s why any ability that can give players an edge on Metal Slimes is great.

5 Monster Wrangler

A New Class Based On A Major Side Quest

  • Best Ability: Lashings of Love

Monster Wrangler is a new class in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and it’s also part of a new side quest. Players can travel around the world and befriend monsters to use in the area. The more monsters players save, the stronger the Monster Wrangler will become.

For example, the in-battle skill, Lashings of Love, will deal more damage with a greater amount of rescued monsters. If players stay on top of this side quest, they can have a killer Vocation in their party with skills like that.

4 Priest

A Designated Healer

Priest vocation in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
  • Best Ability: Multiheal

The Priest is the designated healer of the group but it’s not that weak compared to other healers in RPGs. It has offensive elemental spells so it can fight back with magic like Swoosh. It excels in healing and supportive magic truth be told though like Multiheal.

This spell will heal the whole party for a decent amount and Fullheal will get the job done completely but only on a single party member. The only thing not cool about this Vocation is the getup as it is a bit too cliche.

3 Mage

Burn The World With Magic

  • Best Ability: Kaboom

The Mage is the polar opposite of the Priest as it only deals in offensive magic. There is a litany of powerful spells it can learn like Kaboom. This non-elemental spell can hit the entire army of enemies in battle and sometimes even blow them away with a single cast.

This secret Vocation is worth unlocking.

Mages don’t have a lot of HP or defense though so they are vulnerable to enemy attacks. Mages tend to be glass cannons in RPGs so it makes sense. That said, with good equipment on hand, players should be able to keep them alive.

2 Sage

The Best Of Both Worlds

Sage vocation in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
  • Best Ability: Kazing

The Sage mixes Priest and Mage spells together all in one incredible Vocation. Besides the Gadabout route, players can also find the Words of Wisdom item to transform any class into a Sage. No matter how players do it, they will not regret their decision to evolve their current party to make room for the Sage.

It’s convenient to have healing and offensive spells together and the stats are better balanced when leveling up. There are a lot of great spells to highlight for the Sage but Kazing stands out the most as it can revive a party member on the spot.

1 Hero

A Well-Balanced Protagonist

Hero vocation in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
  • Best Ability: Omniheal

The Hero is the class reserved for the main character of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Players cannot give this class to anyone else nor can they evolve the main character into another class. That fact makes it limited but even so, players wouldn’t want to multiclass the main character anyway.

The growth rate is high when leveling up and like the Sage, players will get a well-balanced amount of healing and offensive spells. There are a lot of exclusives too and the best of which has to be Omniheal which can restore all HP for the whole party.
