Gaming is one of the most popular hobbies and pastimes that help players entertain themselves and cope with the stresses of day-to-day life. Games Done Quick, for the last 14 years, has used speedrunning to bring relief to those in need by raising money for multiple charities. While the main events usually focus on the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Doctors Without Borders, special marathons have been held when the players behind Games Done Quick feel the need to help out other causes. One such event would be Games Done Quick Express, held at TwitchCon, which supported ten charities at once in 2018. On occasion, in response to prominent current events, Games Done Quick will fittingly speedily gather a group of speedrunners to help those affected by the effects at hand.

The reach of Games Done Quick and the generosity of those involved in the event have assisted internationally by aiming to assist with Tsunami relief for Japan in 2011, and later, even worldwide through the Corona Relief Done Quick event to raise funds to aid those affected by the Coronavirus pandemic early into 2020. As Hurricane Helene has caused immense damage and destruction in its wake, GDQ has once again gathered talented speedrunners to help out at a moment's notice. Gamers who are interested in pitching in to help the many people in multiple US states that need aid can look forward to GDQ's Disaster Relief Done Quick starting on October 11 and continuing through October 13.

Disaster Relief Done Quick Aims to Help With Hurricane Helene's Devastation

Disaster Relief Done Quick Highlights How Hurricane Helene's Impact Can't Be Ignored

Games Done Quick may put on extra events from time to time, but it usually sticks to a Summer and Winter schedule. GDQ has the women-focused Flame and Frost Fatales side event, but it's rather hit or miss in terms of the organization's usual schedule overall. Even Games Done Quick Express at TwitchCon has missed a few years, and there have only been four charity events that GDQ has put together in response to current events since Japan Relief Done Quick in 2011.

The latest was Corona Relief Done Quick in 2020, which means that the upcoming Disaster Relief Done Quick breaks the trend of at least three-to-four Games Done Quick events per year, all to help those in need due to Hurricane Helene's damage. GDQ's history of stepping up to help with disaster relief serves as an unspoken statement about just how bad the category 4 cyclone ravaged the eastern US, which no doubt affected gamers just like streamer Tfue alongside everyday people across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia. Disaster Relief Done Quick aims to donate to Direct Relief, a charity dedicated to helping people in poverty with emergency situations.

Games Done Quick has previously supported Direct Relief in two events - Corona Relief Done Quick, and as one of the charities supported at Games Done Quick Express 2018. It's also worth noting the speediness of putting Disaster Relief Done Quick on as a whole as Games Done Quick just finished its Express 2024 event at TwitchCon just two days prior to Helene making landfall. While the October event likely won't raise as much as the previous Summer Games Done Quick and Awesome Games Done Quick events have, as most GDQ side events typically haven't, it's still very clear GDQ has good intentions and wishes to help those that are hurting in the storm's wake. Those who are interested in watching or even donating can look forward to Disaster Relief Done Quick taking place on Games Done Quick's Twitch channel starting on October 11 at 6 PM ET until October 13 at 11:59 PM ET.
