Snezhnaya was widely believed to be released in Genshin Impact’s 6.0 update after the ongoing Natlan series updates concluded. However, a recent leak claims that Snezhnaya won’t be released until version 7.0. While there will still be a new region coming to Genshin Impact in both the 6.0 and the 7.0 version updates, the Snezhnaya region might not be arriving as early as fans were hoping.
While the majority of the new characters coming to Genshin Impact throughout the Snezhnaya region updates have yet to be announced, the Snezhnaya region updates are expected to introduce at least three new playable Cryo characters, potentially more. So, if these leaks about Snezhnaya arriving later than expected are true, this would be especially bad news considering Genshin Impact’s recent drought of Cryo characters.

Genshin Impact: Why the Oculi Adventure Items Have an Uncertain Future
As Genshin Impact continues to grow with every major update, some of the game’s oldest features might eventually need to be reworked.
Genshin Impact’s Snezhnaya Region May be Arriving Later Than Expected
As the Natlan region’s Archon questline in Genshin Impact draws closer to its big finale, the hype for the next chapter of Genshin Impact’s ongoing story is already growing. While many fans anticipated that Snezhnaya would be the next region released after Natlan, a recent leak from Full Stop Chan claims that Nod-Krai will be released in Genshin Impact’s version 6.0 update, meaning that Snezhnaya may not be available until version 7.0.
The current prediction for the release date of Genshin Impact’s 6.0 update is September 10, 2025.
What makes this leak such a cause for concern is that the Snezhnaya region was expected to finally address Genshin Impact’s drought of Cryo characters. Throughout recent updates, the Event Wish Banner has developed a trend of adding Cryo characters to Genshin Impact’s character rerun waiting list, often going over a full year without a rerun. Meanwhile, there have also been very few new Cryo characters released during this time, making it especially hard for players to expand their roster with new Cryo characters. So with the Snezhnaya region expected to finally address Genshin Impact’s drought of Cryo characters, this region arriving later than expected is unfortunate news for fans of Genshin Impact’s Cryo Element.
Genshin Impact’s Snezhnaya Region Could End the Cryo Drought
The Snezhnaya region is home to the powerful Fatui Harbingers, and while the Harbingers are generally enemies of the Traveler, there’s hope among fans that some of these characters will become playable throughout the Snezhnaya updates. Among the Fatui Harbingers is the Cryo Archon, and considering that the Archons from every region in Genshin Impact have all eventually become available as playable characters, the Cryo Archon is expected to follow suit despite potentially being an opponent first.
There’s also potential for another new Cryo character from Snezhnaya who has yet to be revealed. Archons in Genshin Impact are often accompanied by a leading character from the same region who happens to wield the same Element as the Archon, such as Neuvillette accompanying Furina and Ningguang accompanying Zhongli. Consequently, the Cryo Archon will likely repeat this pattern with a Cryo companion.
Beyond these two potential Cryo characters, it’s safe to expect that the Cryo Traveler will become available throughout the Snezhnaya region updates. While the different Elemental attunements for the Traveler in Genshin Impact are often considered niche compared to the current meta, the Traveler is still a highly useful character for free-to-play players in Genshin Impact because of their versatility. Even beyond combat, the Traveler typically has access to certain region-specific exploration and puzzle mechanics that help players unlock hidden treasures.
Outside of these three anticipated new Cryo characters, there are bound to be reruns of existing Cryo characters considering some of these are long-overdue. Ultimately, with the Snezhnaya region updates having the potential to bring Genshin Impact’s Cryo drought to an end, if the leaks about its delayed release are true, this would surely be bad news for Cryo fans.
