Summary
- Hydro Traveler is now the game's strongest DPS due to an item glitch.
- The glitch involves using the Xiao Lantern to deal high Hydro damage.
- After deploying 100 lanterns, they activate Aether's Elemental Burst which causes uncontrollable damage numbers.
Genshin Impact players have discovered an unusual glitch that turns the Traveler into one of the best DPS characters in the game. Story-wise, the Traveler is considered the main character in Genshin Impact, and at the start of each playthrough, players are required to choose between Lumine and Aether to lead them on their journey through the world of Teyvat.
Whichever character they choose, the main goal of the game remains the same: to find the other, who mysteriously appears throughout the story. Even though the Traveler is central to every major storyline, their importance is not reflected in their power on the battlefield, which often results in them being left out of the most effective team compositions.

Genshin Impact Reports Impressive Revenue Results Despite Featuring Two Re-runs
A recent report reveals Genshin Impact's strong sales despite featuring two re-run characters in the second part of Version 5.3.
While the Traveler is not the go-to option for most Genshin Impact players in their party setups, many still find creative ways to make them viable, even if it means exploiting unintended game mechanics. A video shared by Reddit user dhcwsp showcases an interesting glitch that allows Genshin Impact's Hydro Traveler to deal abnormal amounts of damage using an item called the Xiao Lantern. In the video, the player deploys 100 Xiao Lanterns before activating Aether's Elemental Burst, at which point Hydro damage numbers begin appearing uncontrollably. The secret behind this interaction is that the Hydro Traveler's Elemental Burst interacts when in contact with certain entities, which, according to the video, includes the Xiao Lantern.
Genshin Impact Glitch Transforms Traveler Into a Top-Tier DPS
The Xiao Lantern is a craftable item exclusive to the Lantern Rite event, usually used to complete Genshin Impact's Lantern Rite Tales requests. To craft a Xiao Lantern, players need to combine 1 Lantern Fiber, 1 Wick Material, 1 Plaustrite Shard, and spend 50 Mora. These items are relatively easy to obtain, but players need to act fast, as the Lantern Rite Festival will likely end around February 12.
The post gained significant attention in the community, reaching over 14k upvotes, with many fans claiming they have finally found a good use for their Xiao Lanterns. Unfortunately, several players pointed out that this interaction cannot be used in the Spiral Abyss, the hardest end-game domain in Genshin Impact.
A few comments also expressed disappointment that the only time the Traveler becomes a viable team option is through the use of glitches. Overall, the Hydro Traveler, introduced in Fontaine, is widely considered one of, if not the weakest, versions of the main character. The last time the Traveler was a viable support option was at the start of the Sumeru arc when they were one of the few available Dendro characters in Genshin Impact.
