Summary
- Genshin Impact's popular Liyue Hydro user Yelan has gone over 720 days without a banner appearance.
- Her double banner with Hu Tao still holds the overall revenue record, making her absence even more confusing.
- Furina and Sigewinne have been confirmed for the Limited Character banner in Version 5.4.
The popular Genshin Impact character Yelan has gone 720 days without making an appearance in the game. The diverse playable roster of characters found in Genshin Impact is arguably the game's most valuable asset, with each of the 90 currently available boasting a unique story and playstyle.
The ongoing Version 5.3 has introduced three new playable units: two 5-star characters and one 4-star. The two 5-stars, Mavuika and Citlali, were featured in the first banner cycle, while Lan Yan is currently available as part of the Lantern Rite event. Players can even obtain a free copy of Lan Yan by completing a few quests exclusive to Update 5.3.

Genshin Impact Chart Reveals Most Used Supports for Popular DPS Units
An interesting Genshin Impact chart highlights the most commonly used support units for popular Fontaine and Natlan DPS characters.
With the playable roster expanding with each update, it has become increasingly difficult for HoYoverse to include all playable characters in the game's storyline. A Reddit user, bakedrefriedbeans, pointed out that the popular Liyue Hydro user Yelan has gone over 720 days without a story appearance. This is surprising, considering Yelan is one of the most popular characters in Genshin Impact, and her double banner with Hu Tao still holds the overall revenue record. Yelan's last appearance was back in Version 3.4 during the Lantern Rite Festival. Many players expected her to make at least a small appearance in this year’s Lantern Rite, especially since she is a Liyue character.
Genshin Impact Fans Express Frustration Over Yelan's Prolonged Absence
Some comments noted that Yelan's absence fits her character, since she is portrayed as a secretive and mysterious agent. The official storyline reveals that, while Yelan claims to work for Liyue's Ministry of Civil Affairs, she is frequently absent. A few fans have suggested that the game could benefit from allowing players to interact with other playable characters while exploring Genshin Impact's overworld. This would help reduce the perception that certain characters are less important than others.
Fans clarified that this concept doesn’t need to be overly complex. Simple dialogue sequences for special occasions, such as birthdays, could suffice. This would create the impression that Teyvat is a more dynamic and living world, in which events continue even without the Traveler's presence. The second 5-star character with the longest absence is Genshin Impact's Kaedehara Kazuha, whose last involvement in the story was in June 2023.
Kazuha might make a return in the next update, as HoYoverse has confirmed that players will be heading back to the Electro nation in Version 5.4. Yelan could also be due for a new story or rerun banner, as her last appearance was in Update 4.8. To compare, two characters featured in Version 4.7, Furina and Sigewinne, have already been confirmed for the Limited Character banner in the upcoming Genshin Impact Version 5.4.
