Recently published sales data shows that Ghost of Tsushima was the best-selling video game in the US for May 2024. Developed by PlayStation first-party studio Sucker Punch, the 2020 samurai action-adventure title was initially released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. One year later, Ghost of Tsushima was made available for the PlayStation 5 as an upgraded "Director's Cut" version.
For a brand-new IP that launched at the tail end of the PS4 generation, Ghost of Tsushima has been a major success for Sony. Not only was it the company's fastest-selling original IP at the time, but it also surpassed 9.73 million copies sold on PS4 and PS5 alone as of July 2022. As part of PlayStation's PC venture, Ghost of Tsushima was released on PC storefronts on May 16, 2024, and if the reported sales performance is anything to go by, it's quite likely that the game has broken through the 10 million sold barrier.

Ghost of Tsushima PC Port Hits Another Incredible Player Milestone
The PC port of Ghost of Tsushima hits yet another incredible player milestone, making history two days into its Steam release.
The timing of Ghost of Tsushima's PC port was rather inopportune, however, as it launched right after the debacle surrounding the PSN account requirement for PlayStation-published games on PC. Despite the controversy, Ghost of Tsushima managed to perform exceptionally well in terms of sales. Newly released data from Mat Piscatella, the executive director of US-based analytics firm Circana, reveals that Ghost of Tsushima topped the game sales charts for May 2024, jumping all the way to 1st place from 71st and beating out heavy hitters like Paper Mario, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Minecraft, and Elden Ring.
Ghost of Tsushima's PC Port Enabled Major Sales Win for May 2024
The launch of Ghost of Tsushima on PC was definitely the driving factor behind renewed interest in the critically-acclaimed title, but it also impressively managed to outsell every other May release despite releasing in the latter half of the month. Moreover, PC players had to link a PlayStation Network account to play its multiplayer mode, Legends, which also meant that Sony had to delist Ghost of Tsushima from PC storefronts in over 170 countries that weren't supported by PSN. These decisions led to many PC players denouncing support for PlayStation titles on the platform, but Ghost of Tsushima emerged victorious nonetheless.
It should be mentioned that this data is restricted only to the US games market, so it may not be indicative of Ghost of Tsushima's sales trends in other major regions. However, Sony is likely quite pleased with its commercial performance even four years after launch, and fans continue to sit tight and wait for news about Sucker Punch's inevitable Ghost of Tsushima 2.
