Summary
- NoPSSDK, a popular mod for God of War Ragnarok, has been removed from NexusMods by its author.
- The mod allowed users to bypass the game's controversial PSN account linking requirement.
- Its author has yet to comment on why they have taken the mod offline, but NexusMods has reached out to the individual to find out why.
One of God of War Ragnarok's most popular PC mods, which allowed users who owned the game on Steam to bypass the PSN account linking requirement, has been removed by its creator just days after it was released. God of War Ragnarok is the latest first-party PlayStation title to be released on Steam, while also being the most recent of the studio's titles to enforce a mandatory account-linking requirement.
Earlier this year, PlayStation caused quite a stir when it attempted to implement a new account-linking requirement for Helldivers 2. While the studio would eventually go on to revert its decision, it originally set out to force all players to link their Steam account with a PlayStation Network account if they wanted to continue playing. A barrage of negative reviews and backlash saw another win for democracy, but later PlayStation titles that have made their way to Steam, such as Ghost of Tsushima and the recently released God of War Ragnarok, have seen the requirement enforced.

One God of War Ragnarok PC Feature Needs to Set the Standard for the Series' Future
God of War Ragnarok on PC addresses a major criticism of the base game, and Santa Monica Studios should make this change widespread.
After Sony confirmed that God of War Ragnarok would require users to link their PSN accounts to play, the PC port was met with mixed reviews when it launched on September 19. But shortly after the title was released, a new mod emerged that allowed users to bypass the requirement completely. Unfortunately, the author appears to have suddenly removed the NoPSSDK mod from NexusMods without any explanation as to why. Over on Twitter, the official NexusMods account says the mod was removed by its author and that it has reached out to find out why.
God of War Ragnarok's PSN Mod Taken Down by Author
Despite the fact that the popular God of War Ragnarok mod is only a few days old, players are now unable to download it directly from NexusMods or Github. This simple yet effective mod added a new .dll file to the game that allowed users to simply select "no" when prompted to connect their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts. Without the mod, users cannot play the game without linking their two accounts, even if they attempt to boot Ragnarok without an internet connection. The decision to implement such a controversial feature continues to see PlayStation receive tons of backlash with each passing release.
While the requirement saw God of War Ragnarok review bombed at launch, the game has managed to claw its way back to a "mostly positive" review rating on Steam with a little over 4,600 reviews. Unfortunately, despite the positive reviews, Ragnarok's player count is down drastically when compared to its 2018 predecessor, which was released on Steam back in 2022. With upcoming titles such as Until Dawn and LEGO Horizon Adventures also set to feature a PSN account linking requirement, it's possible that PlayStation titles released on PC could continue to decline in terms of popularity due to the controversial feature.
