Details about Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii were leaked earlier this year, but many fans didn't believe the rumors due to the game's incredibly strange premise. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is the next spin-off in the long-running franchise, where it stars Goro Majima in the starring role. The whole premise is quite out there, even for a series known for regularly mixing both seriousness and silliness.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was formally revealed during the RGG Summit event near the end of September, which showed off a set of gameplay and story trailers. Set six months after the events of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Goro Majima wakes up on the beach of Rich Island, having lost his memories. The amnesiac Mad Dog of Shimano then gets involved in a pirate feud, forming his own crew to face off against various pirate lords. While this game's premise already sounds outlandish, most fans likely would have written it off as a rumor if it wasn't confirmed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio itself, which is exactly what happened a few months ago.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Confirms Exciting Detail
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio confirms an exciting detail about Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, the latest installment in its hit franchise.
Twitter user Jawmuncher posted a leak from 4chan that was posted on May 2024, finding it hilarious that a number of details were correct about the game but no one believed it because it sounded "wild". This leak was accurate to a number of details confirmed in Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii's reveal trailer, such as how the beloved Goro Majima is the spin-off's protagonist and the game being set after the events of Infinite Wealth. The leak was also accurate in how it featured two fighting styles, similar to Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, with one of Majima's styles being based on swashbuckling and being a pirate. It also accurately leaked how the game would be revealed in 2024, its Hawaiian setting, and the island of Madlantis.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Was Leaked in May 2024
There were also a number of details that were leaked about Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii that weren't included in the reveal trailer. Supposedly, Majima's memory loss is due to him being lost at sea, and the way that the amnesiac hero will recover his memories is through yakuza tattoos. Certain events from the series will also be revisited, taking place from his perspective as well. Alongside Majima becoming a pirate captain and recruiting other NPCs for his crew, said crew can also undertake missions while doing story quests.
While a lot of details have been confirmed for the game, such as the inclusion of former WWE and current AEW star Samoa Joe, fans should still take these leaks about Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii with a grain of salt until Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio reveal more about the game.
