Summary
- Lords of the Fallen is a challenging game, even more difficult than FromSoftware's Souls games.
- There are several powerful weapons available in the early game that can make the beginner difficulty more manageable.
- The Hushed Saint's Halberd, Bow of the Convert, and Anvil Hammer are highly recommended weapons for early-game success.
Lords of the Fallen isn't exactly an easy game, and that's by design. This is another high-quality entry into the evergrowing list of Soulslikes, though Lords of the Fallen manages to surpass even FromSoftware levels of difficulty in some areas of the game.

5 Best Video Games Based On Classic Literature
These games were all inspired by - if not direct adaptations of - classic literature from around the world.
In the early game, in particular, the difficulty curve of Lords of the Fallen can feel especially brutal. Thankfully, there are a good number of weapons that players likely missed the first time through an area that will help make this initial stretch of beginner difficulty a lot easier to overcome. So, let's go over some of the best weapon recommendations in the early game, at least for the current meta of the game, and then stack them up against each other.

It may seem a bit odd to start off with a weapon that is only obtainable after beating one of the 'story crucial' bosses of the game, but players can go up against the Hushed Saint within their first couple of hours in Lords of the Fallen.
The Hushed Saint's Halberd is one of the earliest polearms/halberds players will have access to, and it'll serve as a great introduction to why these weapons are so good in this game. Not only does this weapon have good physical damage scaling, but it even has a respectable amount of Poison on it as well.

The Spells, Bows, and Throwable Items slot in Lords of the Fallen is an equip slot that's full of overpowered options for players to choose from. Players can go for an Umbral Catalyst to deal some absurd spell damage early on, they can go for the Enhanced Lump Hammer (might have to backtrack for it) to one-shot mobs with a single toss, or they can go for the Bow of the Convert to infect anyone in sight with all sorts of status effects. Bleed damage, Fire damage, Poison Damage, and of course Physical damage, the bow of the Convert sort of has everything going for it.

Not to include too many Grand-type weapons on here, but the Anvil Hammer has such absurd early game damage output and can be found so easily that it would be irresponsible not to include it on this list. This weapon, found in the Path of Devotion, is quite literal, as it is simply an Anvil on a stick being used as a Grand Hammer.

The 16 Hardest Horror Games Ever Made, Ranked
It’s paramount that a horror game is actually scary, but this level of terror is sometimes reflected in the game’s difficulty.
And, the simplicity makes sense, considering this thing just simply deals a lot of damage. It's outclassed by a lot of other weapons later on in the game, but in the early game, the Anvil Hammer is nothing short of a lifesaver.

If it wasn't immediately clear from the appearance of this 'literal boulder on a stick' weapon, the Faithful Bludgeon is a great early-game weapon for Strength Builds. This thing has fantastic innate Strength Scaling and it even has a bit of fire damage embedded in it as well.
The best part of this weapon overall, however, is that for a good while after players obtain it this will be their best weapon for a pure Strength build.

The Sword of Skin and Tooth is one of the best heavy weapons out there for one-on-one confrontations and boss battles. Whether it's the staggering physical damage it outputs the decent speed at which it uses heavy attacks or the absurd amount of burn it inflicts, this weapon is a godsend when it comes to boss fights.

The player base for Lords of the Fallen figured out very quickly after the game came out that Wither damage is a fantastic option to use against enemies. As long as players capitalize on the Wither damage and don't get hit (as doing so would basically 'nullify' the Wither on the enemy), Wither damage allows players to basically kill their enemies twice as fast.

19 Simulation Games That Have Great World Building
These simulation games do a great job at world-building by creating interesting lore and context, making players feel more immersed in the gameplay.
This is exactly why the Taxidermist's Hammer is such a great early-game option, as that Wither damage and innate Strength scaling go a long way in helping players overcome the early difficulty spikes in Lords of the Fallen.
4 Kukajin's Sword

While this next weapon is a bit difficult for a brand new player to figure out how to get it at first, once they do they can get the Kukajin's Sword even faster than the Hushed Saint's Halberd. Once players go about getting this weapon one of the two ways, they'll quickly see why it's such a great early-game weapon. Good Poison damage, good Bleed damage, and decent Agility scaling all add up to make the Kukajin's Sword great and it's even better when dual-wielded with another Poison/Bleed weapon.
3 Ravager Gregory's Sword
Strength & Radiance Scaling Grand Sword

Probably one of the best overall Strength weapons in the game, this obvious Berserk homage sword is a slab of metal players are going to love swinging around. Not only that, but it also has fantastic Radiance scaling, making it a perfect choice for anyone going down that STR/RAD build route (which seems to be a lot of people). And, on top of all this, it also has Wither damage as an extra cherry on top.
2 Bloody Glory

2 Radiance & 1 Default Type Slot |
Strength (E) & Radiance (C) |
70 Physical & 70 Holy Damage |
300 Bleed Damage |
The Bloody Glory is basically what players would get if they turned Bloodlust into a Grand Sword, upped its Bleed damage, and upped its overall damage as a whole. Bloody Glory doesn't have the healing-on-kill effect that Bloodlust Does, but the trade-off is worth it considering players only have to hit an enemy two or three times max to fully trigger the Bleed status on them.
Lastly, since this is a Grand Weapon, the posture damage it dishes out is also impressive, allowing players to stagger enemies much more often.
1 Bloodlust

60 Bleed & 60 Burn Damage |
The Bloodlust is not only an incredible early-game Short Sword, but it's also pretty much one of the best Short Swords in the game, hands down. This thing has absurd innate Attack Power, the Bleed damage combined with its fast swings leads to quick Bleed buildup, and it also innately heals the player whenever they kill an enemy. The healing-on-kill effect especially makes this one of the best early-game weapon recommendations if not the best overall.
