One of the hardest choices players have to make in Marvel Rivals is choosing the character to go with for an upcoming match. With so many different characters and combinations to look out for, it can be daunting for anyone jumping in for the first time to get the right choice.
Of course, you can always go with a familiar or favorite character, and with the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy in recent times, the flora colossus from Planet X, known simply as Groot, might be someone you might want to go with. If you wish to play this Vanguard character well, then this guide will help you to do just that.

Marvel Rivals: How to Play Competitive & All Ranks Explained
In Marvel Rivals, players can participate in Competitive Play to grind their way through the ranks.
All Groot Abilities in Marvel Rivals
As a Vanguard character in Marvel Rivals, Groot is best deployed at the front of a party, with tanking abilities that help to protect the entire team in times of need. However, positioning is key to many of its skills, and making the wrong decision can hamper your team instead if you are not careful.
Just like many other characters, Groot works best within a cohesive team, such as having a Strategist who can help keep its health up. Staying healthy means being able to do more for the rest of the team, and that's what the game is ultimately about.
Here are all of Groot's abilities and what they do:

Tips and Tricks for Playing Groot in Marvel Rivals
Groot is truly a team player, in that it can be effective when being central to a team's plans, and very ineffective on its own. The best way to take advantage of Groot and its powers is to stay near to others, and spot opportunities to trap the enemies using walls.
Vine Things Up
When engaged in a fight, Groot will have difficulty with fast-moving characters. His limited range and the extension of the vines can make it hard to hit those at range, but it is more effective up against melee characters. This goes for Furious Flora as well, which delivers less damage but can get enemies airborne.
One of the best ways to ensure enemies are within range is to use either walls to trap them in a room or corridor with just you and your allies. Then you are free to wail away and get some easy kills.

Wall Positioning
Speaking of walls, the Ironwood and Thornlash Walls are among Groot's most important abilities, and learning how to use them right makes a world of difference. For starters, the former is defensive in nature, while the latter helps out with offense in an interesting way.
If you are trying to defend a point, the Ironwood Wall's wider nature is helpful, and being near it gives Groot more health when attacking too. It helps to break line of sight, forcing enemies to focus on it, while giving you a few seconds to recalibrate. Of course, you can also use it to trap others and help your team with eliminations, but the main purpose is for defending.
On the flip side, you have the Thornlash Walls, which is smaller and used to add damage to your attacks. Attacking an enemy near it will cause the wall to lash out as well, granting you and your allies more ways to hurt the opponent. Its squishy nature means you must place it strategically, and not many know that this wall can even be placed horizontally to avoid catching too much attention. In this state, it can still attack for you, which is a good way to surprise the enemies.
Crowd Control
Groot's Spore Bomb is a throwable cluster that can help with crowd control aplenty, especially since it explodes into smaller variants to catch more targets. Lobbing it into a defending team's position is always fun, and you can use the walls to create kill zones that are perfect for a Spore Bomb.
As for Strangling Prison, it can be used to either save your team or doom your opponents. Defensively, it ties up multiple enemies, including those unleashing their ultimate, so it can scupper plans to wipe out your team. Offensively, once you know your Duelists have their Ultimate Abilities ready, you can do your part by trapping the opponents and watching the chaos unfold and the kills rack up, and bask in the glory of being a great Vanguard.
