Marvel Rivals has three different roles (Duelist, Vanguard, and Strategist) in which over thirty different playable characters are spread out across, taking on different jobs on the battlefield. In addition to this, every playable character on the roster has their own ability kit that creates their individual playstyle, key combos, and strategies to help win. Players can even use Team-Up to grant one another additional abilities, combinations, and passives in battle, so knowing how to play at least a few different characters throughout the roster can make all the difference in forming the perfect team and countering the opposition.

Star-Lord is a Duelist character with a versatile and dynamic playstyle, using his highly mobile kit to move around the field and secure picks on unsuspecting foes. However, playing Star-Lord can be quite tricky if you're still learning where to position yourself when to push in, how to best use your blinks to navigate combat, and how his abilities can be paired for optimal damage output. Everything you'll need to know to learn Star-Lord in Marvel Rivals, including a complete breakdown of his abilities and key tips and tricks to help you get started has been included in the guide below.

In Marvel Rivals, Star-Lord has the advantage of having one of the most consistent mobility kits in the game, granting him both powerful horizontal and vertical movement that can be used pretty much constantly, with proper cycling of his cooldowns. However, Star-Lord requires players to be quite aggressive, applying pressure to their opponents and constantly engaging with the enemy team to draw their attention away, secure picks on low targets, and become a general hassle and distraction to deal with, therefore freeing up opportunities for his allies.

Tips and Tricks for Playing Star-Lord in Marvel Rivals

Star-Lord has a great, dynamic ability kit that enables him to apply a lot of pressure and secure picks for his team effectively - particularly when his cooldowns are cycled properly and used to their full potential. Here are a few key tips and tricks to help you get started with learning Star-Lord, including his greatest strengths and weaknesses against certain foes:

  • Star-Lord's shifts automatically reload his pistols. With good timing of this ability, you can empty your pistols on a target, blink to reload, empty another set of ammo, blink to reload again, and repeat - as long as you leave a shift to help you disengage bad situations. By using this cooldown to constantly apply pressure to a target, Star-Lord should be able to get picks on squishy targets with ease or use this to significantly chip down the HP of tanks, which opens up opportunities for the rest of your team to secure picks, or force them to back off a little and give up some space.
  • Star-Lord's rockets can be used to gain vertical mobility (by looking up) as well as horizontal movement. This is particularly useful for reaching high ground, or pestering flying targets, especially as Star-Lord can boost up, and then use his pistols to shoot targets as he falls back down.
  • Star-Lord can use his movement whilst his barrage is active, enabling him to cover more distance and hit more enemies with the spray. If there are multiple targets on low HP grouped up within close proximity of one another, this can be a quick and effective way of clearing them out quickly, as Star-Lord will deal very rapid damage to low HP targets with this ability, and is quite hard to hit for a lot of characters when in this action.
  • Star-Lord can use his shifts to dodge certain enemy abilities, which is particularly useful against threats of being slowed or immobilized. With proper timing of Star-Lord's shifts, players can also learn to bait out important abilities and cooldowns for the opposition, leaving the target vulnerable for the kill.
  • Star-Lord's Ultimate essentially works as an aimbot after you have locked on to someone. Using this ability when the enemy team is already under pressure and scrambling can be extremely effective, especially if they are within close proximity of one another as Star-Lord can boost up, and lock on to each target to gun them down.
  • You should always be targeting squishy characters, such as the enemy Strategists, or some Duelist characters. This is relevant to both his general weapon usage, as well as his ultimate, where squishies should be the first target priority. As a squishy himself at 250 HP, Star-Lord is best suited to duels against others where he has an advantage. He thrives at assisting on Tanks but may struggle to take them down on his own - especially Vanguards who can take space against him and close him off from escape with his movement abilities.
