Summary
- Jennifer Hale, the voice of the female Commander Shepard in the first three Mass Effect titles, is excited about the upcoming Amazon live-action adaptation.
- Hale says she'd love to make an appearance in the show, and also hopes that Amazon brings back as many of the original actors as possible.
Jennifer Hale, who famously voiced the female version of Commander Shepard, is excited about Amazon's Mass Effect series and thinks the original cast should make an appearance. Amazon entered negotiations with BioWare for the rights to make a live-action adaptation of the Mass Effect games back in 2021, and a few years later it was confirmed that a TV series is now in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. Current Mass Effect game project leader Michael Gamble is attached to the project, as is former Marvel Television producer Karim Zreik, movie producer Avi Arad, and Fast & Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey.
The branching, choice-based nature of Mass Effect’s narrative raises many questions about how a live-action adaptation would be handled. In the games, certain characters can live or die based on the player’s actions, and the main character Commander Shepard is completely customizable. This means that casting the great hero will be a challenge for the upcoming Mass Effect show, as everyone already has their own version of Shepard that may or may not match what will be depicted onscreen.

Mass Effect 4 Should Look To the Original For One Feature
Little is known about Mass Effect 4's RPG mechanics, but it ought to bring back a long-forgotten feature from the first game in the series.
One of the original two Shepard actors recently weighed in on the in-development Mass Effect series during an interview with Eurogamer. Jennifer Hale’s long and impressive voice-acting resume includes the female version of Shepard in the first three Mass Effect games, and she said that she would love to be involved in the new show in some capacity. Hale wasn’t just talking about herself either, stating that it would be “really smart” to bring back as many of the games’ original voice cast as possible. “The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I've ever met […] So I'm ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine.”
Jennifer Hale Wants to Come Back for Mass Effect TV Series
When asked which version of Commander Shepard she would like to see realized in the live-action Mass Effect show, Jennifer Hale naturally leaned toward the “FemShep” that she first brought to life in the original trilogy. Of course, she added that she would be happy to play any role in the show, just as she would be excited to return in the next Mass Effect video game currently in the works at BioWare.
The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I've ever met […] So I'm ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine.
Jennifer Hale’s Commander Shepard was just one of the many memorable heroes and villains of the Mass Effect series, which featured a talented cast of voice actors and celebrities that helped make BioWare’s rich sci-fi world feel all the more real to players. Even if they don’t reprise their roles from the games, getting to see Brandon Keener (who voiced the Turian squadmate Garrus Vakarian), Raphael Sbarge (whose BioWare credentials include Mass Effect’s Kaidan Alenko), or even Jennifer Hale herself would be a treat for longtime fans tuning into Amazon’s live-action Mass Effect TV series.
