Enchantments have vastly changed how fans play Minecraft since their inclusion in 1.0. Since its release, enchanting has gotten continuous updates and improvements that helped it to become an integral part of any Minecraft adventure. There are around 39 enchantments in Minecraft, and they all serve a specific use. Enchantments go on armor, weapons, bows, and tools. Tool enchantments are used while players are not fighting, which is most of the time.
Minecraft has tools such as pickaxes, axes, shovels, shears, fishing rods, and more. Certain tool enchantments allow players to attain blocks that would be impossible to obtain, and others improve the harvesting rate.
7 Lure
For a while, Lure III was one of the strongest enchants in the game. Fishing in Minecraft provides the player with a plethora of resources, such as treasure and food. The lure enchantment reduces the required time to reel in a "fish" and obtain items faster. Each level of the enchantment reduces the time by around 5 seconds.
Fishing was nerfed by Mojang when AFK fishing was removed from the game. AFK fishing allowed players to leave their computers alone for hours and obtain a ton of loot and was easy to set up. AFK fishing is still possible, but is currently too inconsistent and slow.
6 Luck Of The Sea
It is annoying to catch junk while fishing, and results in a cluttered inventory for the player. The Luck of the Sea enchantment reduces the chance of obtaining junk and vastly improves the chances of finding treasure. Without any enchantments, fishing has a 10% chance to yield a junk item and decreases to 4.2% with Luck of the Sea III.
The base chance to obtain treasure is 5% and is increased to 11.3% with Luck of the Sea III. On the max enchantment level, the percentage to obtain fish is reduced by 5%. Lure of the Sea sees use in aiding players to obtain mending books by providing better chances.
5 Unbreaking
Getting more durability out of tools is an amazing deal. Each level of Unbreaking provides a 100% durability increase and caps at a 300% increase. Unbreaking III is one of the best enchants solely for convenience. A netherite pickaxe will break 2,032 blocks but increases to 8,128 with Unbreaking III.
Unbreaking provides players more time with their tools until the tool needs repairing. With unbreaking, players have an easier time with crazy feats, such as mining a 1 million block mountain.
4 Efficiency
Waiting for blocks to break is boring, whether searching for diamonds, netherite, or gathering resources. Efficiency is undoubtedly the most essential enchant for pickaxes as it is the most used tool in the game. The first level of Efficiency boosts breaking speed by 25% and a consecutive 5% increase per level until 45% at Efficiency V.
Efficiency shines most when strip mining for diamonds or obtaining stone for a build. Having Efficiency V on a diamond pickaxe allows players to instantly mine netherrack and is useful in creating nether highways.
3 Silk Touch
There are many blocks players are usually not able to obtain. These blocks range from decorative blocks to blocks that allow fast travel. Packed ice cannot be picked up unless broken by a tool with Silk Touch. Packed ice is essential for speed roads and will save players time in the long run.
Silk Touch allows players to pick up blocks such as a bee nest, bookshelves, campfire, coral blocks, ender chests, sea lanterns, and more. Obtaining sea lanterns, coral blocks, and other decorative blocks opens many avenues to spice up the decor in any Minecraft world. Silk Touch will also help save blocks, such as glass, by preventing it from breaking when mined.
2 Fortune
The Fortune enchant is the fastest way players can amass lots of diamonds. Rather than obtain only one diamond per diamond ore, the Fortune enchantment will make it possible to obtain up to 4 diamonds per ore. Without delving into mathematics, a Fortune III enchantment will provide an average of 2.2 diamonds per diamond ore.
Fortune affects other blocks such as coal ore, copper ore, nether quartz ore, Redstone ore, lapis lazuli ore, gold ore, and iron ore. Players often start saving diamond ore and mine it later in their playthrough when they have a Fortune III pickaxe. Due to Fortune's ability to aid players in multiplying resources, it is crucial to create the ultimate pickaxe.
1 Mending
Out of all enchantments, Mending has shaken up Minecraft the most. Mending allows tools to last forever and no longer require materials to repair, only XP. Any player with an XP farm will have infinite use from their tools as they are repairable using XP. Mending can be applied to rare items such as elytras to make them last forever, assuming the player repairs them with XP.
Before Mending, players needed to repair tools at an anvil and would require XP and resources. Tools would eventually become impossible to repair and would need to be discarded. Mending has made it possible to repair items without resources and keep repairing them endlessly. Once a player has access to an XP farm, all their tools, weapons, and armor will last forever, assuming they are careful.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
