Minecraft has been available for play for over a decade at this point, and as such, strategies for gameplay have pretty much been completely refined. While Minecraft does receive game-changing updates every so often, players have figured out how to optimally perform tasks and actions over the game's lifetime.
However, while players have been able to optimize the game for the most part, that doesn't mean that every player follows a formula for playthroughs. On the contrary, many players either have their own setup they cultivated over time, or they try out completely different strategies for each playthrough. For example, recently a player found an innovative way to chop down large Minecraft trees that made for quick wood gathering.
One area of the game that leaves itself open for reinvention, innovation, and creativity is farming. While on the surface it seems that all players need to do to farm is hoe some dirt, plant some seeds, and use some water, players tend to take farming strategies to the extreme in order to cut down on time and effort. Additionally, some players look to find the best way to farm a specific plant such as Minecraft's sugar cane plant. However, recently a player showed the internet their extremely unique and inspired farming trick that allows them to instantly harvest their plants.
Reddit user TabbyLV took to the site to post a video that is confusing at first, but eventually becomes clear after a few watches and comments. In the clip, TabbyLV is walking around their underground farm before sealing the exit and breaking the torches within. Once these steps are complete, the room is covered in thick darkness. Then, TabbyLV takes a single swing at a wheat plant and the entire room of wheat suddenly explodes, leaving behind the harvest. Minecraft can help players appreciate nature, but in TabbyLV's case, they took nature down in a single strike.
The clip is baffling to those not familiar with the game as well as those who play it more casually, but other Reddit comments helped to piece together the mystery of the exploding farm. While many comments talked about how the idea could be improved upon, others questioned what the heck was going on in the clip; finally, a user commented explaining that plants instantly break in pure darkness. Thus, when TabbLV took a swing, the plants broke apart in a cascading harvest as though they were reaped with a scythe.
The clip is mind-blowing to those unfamiliar with the trick, making for a new farming strategy to try out. Meanwhile, a player has beaten Minecraft without killing a single mob; if plants count, TabbyLV might as well be mob enemy #1 with their patented one-punch farm.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
