The My Nintendo Rewards program has let players earn points for purchasing games, and then cash them in for rewards. Platinum My Nintendo Rewards points, in particular, can be turned in for things like discounts on select games and digital wallpapers.
Many Nintendo fans have been hoping for interesting physical rewards, as My Nintendo Rewards in Japan and other locations offer. Those players will likely rejoice to know that a select variety of physical rewards are now available to those living in the United States with platinum points.
The selection, for now at least, is fairly limited, but players who Nintendo's recent main franchises will likely be able to find something interesting here. In particular, fans of Xenoblade Chronicles and Splatoon may be interested in the rewards. Nintendo is offering sheets of Xenoblade stickers for 300 platinum points, while a tiny replica of the Monado Sword that can be used as a phone stand is also offered for 500 platinum points. The final physical reward at this time is a set of eight Splatoon postcards, each with unique illustrations from the game's development team, for 400 platinum points.
At this time, it remains to be seen if Nintendo will restock any of these items once the supply is depleted. Players who are interested in any of these items should act quickly, as they're very likely to be claimed in a hurry. However, they won't be the last of the physical My Nintendo Rewards.
While the full extent of Nintendo's plans for the My Nintendo Rewards system are unknown, it recently revealed that Splatoon 2 would also receive a physical keychain via My Nintendo Rewards at some point in the future. The release will be timed to celebrate the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Splatfest that was announced during the 35th Anniversary Super Mario livestream.
It's arguably a very good time to be a Nintendo fan, and these rewards are just one facet of it. Mario fans were recently delighted to learn that many Mario Bros. games are coming to the Switch, and on top of that, Legend of Zelda fans got a sudden surprise of a Breath of the Wild prequel releasing this year. While the Switch's new game releases have stagnated somewhat over the year, it's clearly not the end of good games for the Switch, and far more likely that the COVID-19 pandemic simply made some of this exciting news launch later than expected.
