After dropping a few hints about it the last few weeks, Electronic Arts has now officially announced Need for Speed Payback, the next installment to its long-running racing franchise. Along with the announcement comes a high octane trailer for Need for Speed Payback, which can be seen below.

According to the announcement from EA, Need for Speed Payback will be “an explosive adventure… filled with heist missions, high stakes car battles, epic cop pursuits and jaw dropping set pieces.” As many have already pointed out online, the trailer for Need for Speed Payback gives off a very Fast and the Furious meets The Crew vibe.

While the gameplay will hopefully be better than the mediocre offering from 2015’s Need for Speed, it seems EA is sticking to the tried-and-true story of betrayal and revenge that has become synonymous with the Need for Speed franchise. Marcus Nilsson, executive producer for Need for Speed Payback, had this to say about the upcoming racing title:

“Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games. We’re still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we’re bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today.”

According to EA, players will take on the role of three different characters as they seek to take down The House, a “nefarious cartel” that runs the game world’s casinos, cops, and criminals. Gamers will have the most customization ever for a Need for Speed game, which is great news for those who were fans of the customization available in the Underground series of Need for Speed.

As revealed a few weeks ago, EA is dropping the Always Online requirement for Need for Speed Payback. This will allow gamers to enjoy the racing experience even if they have a poor or no Internet connection.

That said, it’s likely there will be plenty of online multiplayer experiences available for those who want it, including the possibility of a racing arena based on a trademark filed by EA last year. Hopefully gamers will get more details at E3 this year for Need for Speed Payback, including the various game modes coming with the title.

As part of the announcement, EA revealed Need for Speed Payback will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 10th. EA Access and Origin Access members will receive a 10 percent discount by pre-ordering the digital version, and can play up to 10 hours starting November 2nd. Deluxe Edition owners will be able to begin playing November 7th.

Need for Speed Payback is set to release November 10, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
