Heroic Tragedy Timeless Jewel is one of the most confusing items in Path of Exile 2, as it doesn't actually say what it does in its item description.

Additionally, it can only be obtained by defeating one of the pinnacle bosses at the hardest difficulty, is also a random drop, and easily costs more than 30 Divine Orbs on a good day, making experimentation possible only for the rich. Here is the breakdown.

How to Get Heroic Tragedy Timeless Jewel in PoE 2

Expedition boss in Path of Exile 2 endgame

The Heroic Tragedy Timeless Jewel is a possible drop from Olroth, Origin of the Fall, the pinnacle Expedition boss at Difficulty 4. Players can fight Olroth inside Level 79+ Logbooks. Logbooks can be obtained either via trade or through regular Expedition maps (though they are very rare), and are used by talking to Dannig in the Hideout. Dannig only appears in the Hideout after he is encountered during a regular Expedition map run.

To fight Olroth at Difficulty 4, you will first have to defeat him at base difficulty and use Expeditions atlas points to get +1 Boss Difficulty. Repeat this three more times to unlock Difficulty 4.

You cannot use an Orb of Chance to get a Heroic Tragedy Jewel.

How Does The Heroic Tragedy Work in PoE 2

heroic tragedy timeless jewel in path of exile 2

Heroic Tragedy transforms all Keystones and Notables inside its radius into something else.

Keystones

When placed in a Jewel socket, Heroic Tragedy transforms any Keystones within its radius into a different Keystone based on the name stated in "Remembrancing (100–8000) songworthy deeds by the line of Vorana/Medved/Orloth". There are three variants.

  • Vorana (Circular Teachings): Changes Strength's Inherent bonus to 1% increased Energy Shield per 2 Strength (instead of +2 Max Life per 1 Strength)
  • Medved (Knightly Tenets): Changes Dexterity's Inherent bonus to 1% increased Armor per 2 Dexterity (instead of +5 Accuracy per 1 Dexterity).
  • Olroth (Black Scythe Training): Changes Intelligence's Inherent bonus to 1% increased Evasion rating per 2 Intelligence (instead of +2 Mana per 1 Intelligence).

Whichever name is at the end of the line is the effect that will be applied.

In the current version of PoE 2, Gemling's Enhanced Effectiveness Ascendancy passive does not work with Heroic Tragedy.

Notables

When placed in a Jewel socket, Heroic Tragedy transforms any Notables within its radius into something new. The default effect of these notables is replaced entirely. The exact nature of these changes is defined by the number in "Remembrances (100-8000)." A Heroic Tragedy can roll a number between 100-8000, and each number is basically a different 'seed'. This number decides what the Notables in the radius will turn into, and each 'seed' will have a different effect.

Notables are the large passive nodes with a brown border around them. Keystones are the ones with a golden border.

In PoE 1, there was a third-party tool that was used to uncover what specific numbers on a Heroic Tragedy did for every Notable in the passive skill tree. Unfortunately, there is no PoE 2 version quite yet, which makes a comprehensive list of all possible changes not available at this time.

Divine Orb rerolls both the name of the Timeless Jewel and the remembrance number. Currently, Heroic Tragedy Jewels serve as an endgame Divine sink option for super-late game builds that have exhausted all other avenues of power. The idea is that you get a Heroic Tragedy, socket it in all your available Jewel sockets, and see if you get lucky with the rolls and get a busted Notable passive. If not, Divine it and try again.

Only one Timeless Jewel can be active in a passive tree at one time.
