Asobo Studio, the development team behind A Plague Tale: Requiem, has confirmed it's working on another new project with publisher Focus Entertainment. The sequel to 2019's hit stealth game A Plague Tale: Innocence, A Plague Tale: Requiem picks up Hugo and Amicia's story as they embark on a perilous journey. A Plague Tale: Requiem went on to become nominated for five categories at The Game Awards 2022, including Best Narrative and Game of the Year.
Asobo Studio's resume is filled with a wealth of variety. Before the studio linked up with Focus Entertainment for A Plague Tale: Innocence, Asobo collaborated with publishers like Ubisoft and Xbox on different types of games, like ReCore, The Crew 1 and 2, and even a handful of Xbox Kinect games. Going back even further to the late 2000s, Asobo also had its hand in several of the Disney Pixar tie-in games for films like Wall-E, Ratatouille, Up, and Toy Story 3. Additionally, the studio developed 2020's Microsoft Flight Simulator and continues to provide updates for its playerbase. It's safe to say the critically acclaimed Plague Tale games were new territory for the studio.
Now, just over a year since the release of A Plague Tale: Requiem, Focus Entertainment has good news for fans of Asobo Studio's games. In a tweet celebrating A Plague Tale: Requiem's latest milestone of 3 million players, Focus Entertainment announced its partnership with Asobo will continue for "another exciting project." Sadly, no other details or hints were given about what this new title would entail, or whether it would be a third Plague Tale game.
Despite this announcement being attached to a Plague Tale milestone tweet and job listings from earlier in the year suggesting more Plague Tale is on the way, fans who've played A Plague Tale: Requiem know that Amicia and Hugo's story has been wrapped up quite definitively. It's possible this new project may very well be a new IP from Asobo, and considering Focus Entertainment's track record, it would probably be safe to expect it to be a dark third-person action adventure game similar to Plague Tale. It would also be interesting to know whether this mystery project would incorporate some of the stealth chops Asobo has built up over the Plague Tale duology. With that said, considering Asobo's history with an amalgamation of different genres, styles, and tones, anything seems possible regarding a potential new IP from the studio.
Since Asobo Studio is currently working on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 for Xbox, it's likely that this new game with Focus Entertainment is still in the early phases of conception, perhaps in early development. Needless to say, fans shouldn't expect for the game to appear at The Game Awards next month.
