For many players, Bloodborne will forever be held as FromSoftware's magnum opus. The 2015 gothic horror masterpiece is quickly approaching its 10th anniversary, a fact that has led to a significant uptick in rumors regarding the possibility of a Bloodborne remake, remaster, or sequel. It's a fact that even Sony itself is now seeming to acknowledge, whipping up speculative fans into a frenzy by including footage of Bloodborne in the PlayStation's 30th Anniversary celebration video, complete with the phrase "It's about persistence" appearing on-screen. Sony has dangled the carrot of something Bloodborne-related for too long for it all to amount to nothing.

Getting the PlayStation brand in on the "cosmic joke" of players wishing for something related to Bloodborne and never having it come to fruition shouldn't just amount to little more than corporate trolling. Sony, as a successful company with staff who are keenly aware of the wishes of the community, has to know that the prospect of a Bloodborne remake or sequel would be a monumental event within the industry and that it's leaving money on the table if it lets the IP continue to languish. Now that Sony owns a majority stake in FromSoftware's parent company, Kadokawa, it's time for all the subtle hints to bear some fruit (or, in this case, grant eyes).

The PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebration is just the latest in a long string of Bloodborne-related teases. Months before December's celebration kicked off with the video that conspicuously features Bloodborne footage at the end, rumors abounded regarding the possibility of something related to Bloodborne being revealed at the 2024 Tokyo Game Show. Of course, as is typical with Bloodborne rumors, they ended up being completely unfounded, leaving plenty of fans grasping at straws to decipher what (if anything) the teases and hints might mean. In just the last year, players have had the following instances to either ignore or acknowledge, giving into what the Bloodborne community has taken to calling "Copium":

  • The PS5-coded listing on PSN for Bloodborne's The Old Hunters DLC
  • The reprinting and reissue of the Bloodborne Complete Edition Guide
  • FromSoftware's Bloodborne-centric social media posts
  • The PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebration kick-off video
  • Rumors of a FromSoftware announcement at The Game Awards 2024 (confirmed to be Elden Ring: Nightreign)

Collectively, all of these teases or hints suggesting that Bloodborne will get a remaster (including the much-requested 4K 60FPS PC port) or a sequel have amounted to nothing, leaving many fans disillusioned and resigned to the fact that Bloodborne will forever remain an isolated game in the impressive FromSoftware catalog. But for Sony itself to acknowledge the idea of "persistence" as it relates to Bloodborne, that kind of meta-reference shouldn't go unfulfilled.

Bloodborne Has Reached Its 'Now or Never' Moment

Whether the meaning of "It takes persistence" was meant to evoke the idea that Bloodborne is a challenging game or perhaps tip Sony's cap to the fans who have been patiently waiting for the company to do something with the IP remains to be seen, but there's no denying that Bloodborne is approaching a critical date. March 24, 2025 will mark Bloodborne's 10th anniversary, and given how much back and forth there has been among the fanbase regarding the potential for a remake, remaster, or sequel in recent years, the property has arguably reached an impasse. If Sony doesn't do something with the Bloodborne IP soon, there's a strong chance it never will.

Already, the mere mention of a Bloodborne rumor is enough to frustrate a certain contingent of the fanbase who refuse to give into a false sense of hope, while others' "copium" reserves are at full tilt in the shred of possibility that such rumors will bear fruit. With Sony now openly dropping the Bloodborne breadcrumbs for players to follow, it should make good on that so-called persistence it's been asking of Bloodborne fans for a decade.
