The announcement of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet has led to a wave of creativity sweeping over the already notoriously prolific Pokemon fandom. With the designs of the new starter trio having been released, many fans are trying their hand at making tributes to Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Now, one Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fan has put together intricate paper figures of the new starters.

Paper art takes many forms around the world, from scrapbooking to papercraft to origami. This isn't the first time a Pokemon fan has put together stunning 3D paper art showcasing some of the franchise's cute, cool, and sometimes creepy creatures, but it may be one of the most adorable.

Redditor CrafterWong shared a photo of the simplified 3D paper versions they made of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Each figure features a small body, a large head, and stubby limbs to evoke the chibi aesthetic of the classic in-game Pokemon graphics. The result is three adorable freestanding sculptures that manage to incorporate a surprising level of detail despite being made entirely out of paper. Each figure features a number of printed-on details, but the form of the Pokemon is created through clever folding techniques.

CrafterWong is very talented, but they do appear to have taken some creative liberties with the designs of this starter trio. In the photograph, a tiny Sprigatito is shown with straight cheek fluff to accommodate for the fact that paper doesn't tend to bend nicely. Fuecoco's figure focuses so much on its head that the Pokemon's feet appear to have disappeared entirely, though fans may find that this doesn't impact the creature's cuteness much. Meanwhile, Quaxly's design appears to have been simplified until it's just a white duck wearing what appears to be a blue sailor hat.

Despite the changes made, CrafterWong's work appears to have been warmly received by other fans. One reason for this may be that the artist added a link to their website, where they had uploaded the template and 3D models for these projects. This means that interested Pokemon fans can simply make their own paper figures of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. Several fans also noted that the decision to make the figures look like low-rez polygon models was a good one, as it apparently adds some stylized flair to the designs. It also likely makes it easier to capture the shapes of round Pokemon in paper art.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are scheduled to release in late 2022 for Switch.
