Major spoilers ahead for Red Dead Redemption 2!
The Van der Linde gang, and Arthur Morgan, are coming to an end, and they cannot outrun fate forever. Civilization encroaches in Red Dead Redemption 2, and Arthur Morgan faces his own mortality as his tuberculosis worsens with each passing day. Yet, Arthur’s last ride doesn’t have to be so sudden, but it will most certainly be so sad.

Red Dead Redemption 2: 8 Things That Prove Arthur Morgan is a Good Man
Arthur Morgan has plenty of opportunities to prove that he has high honor in Red Dead Redemption 2, with these decisions showcasing he's a good man.
Before players embark on Arthur Morgan’s last ride in Red Dead Redemption 2, there are a few things that they should do beforehand so that they can send Arthur off into his last sunrise with the highest honor possible, and to ensure a better tomorrow for those who he encounters.
Players will need to complete these activities before Chapter 6’s mission: Our Best Selves.
10 Donate to the Quincy Harris Memorial Hall
Solidify Arthur’s Place in History with a Generous Donation
- Mission: Fundraiser
- Location: Saint Denis
While it’s only a small act, Arthur can head to Saint Denis to meet an unnamed woman who requests a donation of $20 for the expansion of a Quincy Harris Memorial Hall. While this might not mean anything to Arthur, it’s a good idea to do this before Arthur’s last mission so that his name can be etched into history.
It may be just a small and insignificant gesture, but it means that by 1907, John Marston could visit the outside of the Quincy Harris Memorial Hall to see a plaque with Arthur Morgan’s name on it, which is just a nice way to keep his name and his memory alive.
9 Get Your Photo Taken by Albert Mason
Immortalize Arthur’s Likeness with a Portrait From a Renowned Wildlife Photographer
- Mission: Arcadia for Amateurs
- Location: South West of Strawberry
Albert Mason might not be the most professional or experienced wildlife photographer, on account of the fact that everything in the wild seems to want to eat him, but that doesn’t mean he can’t get a great photo. If players meet Albert Mason in the first part of Arcadia for Amateurs, he will have taken Arthur’s photo, which changes depending on what he is wearing at the time. Doing so is a great idea for future reference, and also because it makes Albert hold a fond memory of Arthur in the future.
If players do get their picture taken, subtly, then they can find this photo in the art exhibition gallery in the Galerie Laurent in Saint Denis, which allows John Marston to go visit his old friend. It’s a nice gesture to immortalize Arthur’s image so that John doesn’t have to rely on just his memory.
8 Help Edith and Archie Downes
Arthur Can’t Change the Past, But He Can Do His Best to Provide a Good Future
- Mission: Do Not Seek Absolution
- Location: Annesburg
This mission might only be available for those with high honor, but who would want to commit acts of evil anyway? During a high honor run, players can head to Annesburg where they can run into Edith Downes again, the widower of the man that Arthur Morgan beat up for his debts owed to Strauss, and the man that gave him this terminal TB condition in the first place.
Arthur isn’t vengeful for the fact Thomas Downes transmitted tuberculosis to him, and instead, he just wants to help those who need help in his last weeks, which is why helping the Downes family is the right thing to do so that they do not have to die a horrible and poor death in the mining town of Annesburg.
7 Aid the Wapiti Indian Reservation for Rains Fall
Arthur Morgan Understands That Helping Others is More Important Now
- Mission: Archeology for Beginners
- Location: Wapiti Indian Reservation, Grizzlies East
As Dutch continues to twist the ear of Rains Fall’s son, Eagle Flies into a weapon of vengeance, Arthur sees only the young fool while he reflects on his own moments of mortality. With so much chaos and death, Arthur decides to help Rains Fall at the Wapiti Indian Reservation to protect their sacred Native American land and their artifacts from the U.S. Army.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Every Van der Linde Gang Member and What Happens to Them
Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't work out well for the Van der Linde gang's plans, but what exactly happens to each of the gang's members?
Helping Rains Fall is the right thing to do, and even though Dutch Van der Linde finds out and gets overly aggressive about how Arthur has been doing things behind his back, Arthur needs to be beyond the point of caring what Dutch thinks, and see that there’s more to life than just his own selfishness.
6 Save the Widower, Charlotte Balfour
Show Arthur’s Kindness by Teaching Charlotte Balfour to Hunt
- Mission: The Widow of Willard’s Rest
- Location: Willard’s Rest, Roanoke Ridge
Arthur Morgan can encounter another widow at Willard’s Rest, where a young woman will be mourning her newly buried husband. Out in the wild, Charlotte Balfour is all but dead if she’s left alone to fend for herself since she doesn’t know how to hunt or how to skin a rabbit. Luckily, Arthur is always a gentleman and can assist her by teaching her a few tricks.
If Arthur visits Willard’s Rest to help teach Charlotte how to skin a rabbit, he can return later to then teach her how to shoot a gun. These two missions are vital to ensuring that Charlotte survives out in the wilderness, and players can check back in on her after the Epilogue.
5 Meet The Veteran of O’Creagh’s Run
Hamish Sinclair and Arthur Morgan Are Two Old Souls Who Share a Bond
- Mission: The Veteran
- Location: O’Creagh’s Run, Grizzlies East
Venturing through O’Creagh’s Run, Arthur might be beckoned to help an old veteran of the war who is missing his leg. Show Arthur has a heart by aiding the man in recovering his horse and his prosthetic leg from the great animal’s saddle, to which the two can then share a moment of reflection on their lives, since Arthur has no interest in robbing a veteran, especially not in his own dying state.
Hamish then invites Arthur to go fishing with him, and the two develop a strong friendship in the short amount of time that they spend together. It’s a lovely encounter that allows Arthur a moment of peace and calm among the violence and chaos that Dutch brings. Be warned, Part 4 of the mission should be reserved for John.
4 Bond With Your Horse
Reach Bonding Level 4 for a Secret Cutscene
Horses are extremely important in Red Dead Redemption 2. After all, how else will a cowboy ride through the vast states? As such, it’s a good idea to ensure that Arthur has a Level 4 Bond with his horse of choice, no matter the breed of the majestic beast, and there’s good reason for that.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Arthur Morgan's Most Dishonorable Acts
Arthur Morgan is an outlaw for a reason, and during Red Dead Redemption 2 he is responsible for quite a few evil and dishonorable acts.
Within the finale, a secret cutscene will play should players have a Level 4 Bond with their horse, and it’s going to be one that players will not want to miss, so it’s nearly vital that players feed their horse, pet it, and brush it so that they can develop a loving relationship with their trusty steed.
3 Get Cleaned Up
Visit a Barber to Make Sure Arthur Doesn’t Die a Mess
With tuberculosis literally killing him, it’s unlikely that Arthur has taken the time to bathe or get a fresh haircut, but considering this is his last ride and all of this could be coming to an end, it’s a good idea to let Arthur visit a barber shop and get a fresh new trim to tidy him up a bit before his final confrontation with the Pinkertons.
Giving Arthur Morgan a clean look might give him the encouragement to fight as he remembers that he’s a man and not just some sick thing that needs to be taken care of. Sure, it won’t change the outcome of the finale, but it’s going to give Arthur a nice appearance in his goodbye.
2 Reminisce on the Good Times and the Bad Times
Re-Visit Old Sites Like Camps and Graves to Pay Your Respects
Arthur’s last ride can wait, as now is a good time to go back to let Arthur grieve for those who he has lost throughout the journey. Plenty of loving Van der Linde gang members had died on the escape from the Pinkertons, and it would only be right for Arthur to pay them a visit before he joins them forever.
There are plenty of graves that Arthur can uncover, marking their locations so that he can reminisce on the likes of little Jenny, his annoying self-proclaimed Irish brother, Sean, and of course, his mentor, Hosea. So many dead, and for what? Visiting their graves is a good encouragement for Arthur as he takes his last ride.
1 Visit the Aberdeen Pig Farm
Stash Some Money Away for John and His Family
- Location: North of Pleasance, Lemoyne
If players head to the Aberdeen Pig Farm located North of Pleasance in Lemoyne, they will be beckoned into a cabin by an overweight man to come to have dinner with him and his wife. For Arthur, being on the trail for so long, and while so ill, it’s a good idea to take a break with the Aberdeens, even if they hold a terrible secret.
This incestuous couple will drug Arthur and steal all of his money should they drink the alcohol that Bray and Tammy provide him with, but Arthur should oblige. Doing so will see Arthur’s money stolen and placed behind the portrait of their mother in the kitchen, and this is a recommended act because the money can be saved for John if he returns here in the Epilogue, since Arthur’s final mission will see him lose all his cash anyway.
