The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is a game that has become a landmark in the industry for many reasons, most of them positive. The title is legendary for its vast open-world setting and incredibly in-depth lore, but it's also notorious for being haunted by bizarre glitches. Recently, one Skyrim player was minding their own business when they saw what appeared to be a dragon rising from the ground without any explanation.

The dragons of Skyrim are one of the most memorable elements of the game. These powerful enemies can be encountered while following the game's plot, but they can also simply decide to attack the player when they are out exploring the world. Sometimes, this results in gamers having very unexpected encounters with massive flying dragons with chips on their shoulders.

Redditor killa_hydro7 shared a short 29-second-long clip that chronicles a bizarre glitch they encountered causing a Blood Dragon to rise mysteriously out of the ground. This isn't the first time a Skyrim player has randomly encountered dragons in odd circumstances, but it may be one of the funniest. The video begins with a loading screen that quickly resolves into a gloomy village in the forest. After a few seconds of walking around, the player spots a dragon's head emerging from the cobblestone path and draws their sword.

As it rises from below, the dragon appears to roar silently. However, its lack of vocalizations combined with the fact that it seems to be clipping through the ground rather than digging its way out suggest that something has gone wrong in the game's back end. Not only does the dragon fail to attack a nearby NPC, but it also fails to attack the player as they draw near. Finally, when the dragon has hauled itself completely out of the ground, the player walks right up to it and is offered a prompt to search the Blood Dragon.

The player discovers that they can loot the dragon without issue and begin rummaging through the beast's belongings. These consist of 22 Steel Arrows, two Dragon Bones, three Dragon Scales, and an Iron War Axe of Soul Snares. At the end of the video, the player takes what they want from the now-motionless dragon and begins backing away, presumably trying to put as much distance between them as possible before the dragon remembers it should be attacking. Dragons in Skyrim are usually hostile, so gamers may find it interesting that this one is not a threat.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
