  • Episode 6 of Solo Leveling showcases visually stunning animation of Kargalgan's spells.

In Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, episode 6, "Don't Look Down On My Guys", Sung Jinwoo faces off against the powerful High Orc shaman, the primary antagonist of the Hunters Guild's Gate arc. During the encounter, the beast showed off an impressive arsenal of spells both offensive and support-focused, some of which would have had the potential to change the tides of battle against virtually any other opponent.

The motif in most of Kargalgan's spells is that they're "Songs of X" (or perhaps, "Hymns" would be more appropriate), but he also appeared to favour the kind of magic that allowed him to control the intensity of the force of gravity acting on a target of his choice, as seen when he viciously pounded Hunters Guild Strike Team B leader and A-Rank Tank, Son Kihoon, into the ceiling and ground. Here are some of Kargalgan's most powerful, or most effective spells, as seen in the Solo Leveling anime.

The Hunters' Guild strike team B, Cha Hae In and Woo Jinchul all bore witness to Hunter Sung Jinwoo's might, and are sworn to secrecy.

Kargalgan, Boss of the Hunters Guild Gate

One of Jinwoo's Most Significant Shadow Extractions

As mentioned previously, Kargalgan was the Boss of the Hunters Guild Gate and a powerful High Orc shaman. After his defeat at the hands of his own former top 4 High Orc generals turned into Shadows, he is reborn as "Tusk", and becomes the most powerful magic-user in Jinwoo's Shadow Army. Kargalgan's magic power was so great that it scared the magic user of the Hunters Guild secondary strike team into submission, with the poor young woman being forced to confront the massive gulf in class between herself and the enemy that sought to lay waste to her allies. When they encountered the barrier preventing their exit from the Dungeon, merely attempting to remove it caused them to suffer powerful curses that gravely injured the party, so it can be said that Kargalgan's magic is so powerful that interacting with it can severely injure any Hunters ranked A or B. When it comes to large-scale battles, Kargalgan's proficiency in magic, particularly in area-of-effect spells, as well as his intelligence and ability to organize the other magic-users in Jinwoo's army. The table below summarizes the spells Kargalgan used during Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow-, episode 6:

Kargalgan's Most Powerful Spells

Spell Name

Effect

Hymn of Blindness

Blinds the target

Hymn of Frenzy

Undermines the target's defenses

Hymn of Giants

Attack on Titan

Hymn of Lethargy

Petrifies the target

Hymn of Protection

Increases his defenses

Hymn of the Blazing Fire

Shoots fireballs

Hymn of the Fire Dragon

Transforms his cloak into the shape of a dragon's maw and fires concentrated beams. Could also be turned into an AOE spell.

The sixth episode of Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- was exceptional from an animation standpoint, and Kargalgan's various spells were gorgeously animated, particularly his ultimate attack, the Hymn of the Fire Dragon, which transformed his hooded cloak into the head of a dragon which then blasted concentrated beams of fire that tore across the battlefield. Kargalgan even altered this technique to turn it into an "area of effect" ability, mowing down most of Jinwoo's shadow army and even some of his own guys in the process. Beyond that, his less offensive spells still had major effects on their targets, like his ability to strike fear into the hearts of his targets, as seen when he basically bolted the members of the Hunters Guild strike team B in place, leaving their leader Son Kihoon to charge into the battle alone, but even without doing so, possessing one of his High Orc minions to speak directly to the Hunters also had a fear-inducing effect, but none so great as what the Hunters experienced when they locked eyes with him.
