Season one of Solo Leveling was packed with action, drama, and a hint of comedy amidst a world full of monsters and bad intentions. The main protagonist of Solo Leveling, Sung Jinwoo, went from a meek and intimidated young man who was known as the weakest hunter in the world to someone his friends and allies could rely on in battle. South Korean web novelist Chugong's beautiful art style was translated over to an anime season masterfully, with every last detail of the story receiving the proper attention it deserved and the many characters holding their rightful place in the story. Though Sung Jinwoo got most of the spotlight to develop, plenty of different characters got their moments to establish an important role in the story.
The ending of Solo Leveling's first season still has its audience talking and clamoring over the perfect landing it stuck in its final episode. Sung Jinwoo became a fierce and feared fighter, steadily increasing his experience in battle and elevating his stats to be a well-rounded hunter who could pack a punch and have the stamina and endurance to keep up with the strongest enemies. Episode 12 of Solo Leveling's debut season, "Arise", was a perfect send-off to tie some loose ends and introduce a new power to Sung Jin Woo's arsenal, and the title of the episode was even adapted to the series' first mobile game, Solo Leveling: Arise.

Sung Jin Woo's Incredible Development In Solo Leveling
How The Main Protagonist Went From Scared To Dominant
In the debut episode of Solo Leveling, the audience is introduced to Sung Jinwoo, the weakest hunter known to humanity and infamously known as an E-Rank fighter incapable of handling the weakest of enemies. The first glimpse of Jinwoo in action was severely underwhelming, as he managed to defeat one goblin in a preemptive strike before suffering a near-lethal blow. Luckily, his friend and best ally, Lee Joohee, was a B-Rank healer and kept Jinwoo alive throughout his dungeon escapades, and always kept an eye out for him during every quest. Unfortunately, the dungeon they entered in Episode 1 turned out to be one not even she could prepare for, leading Jinwoo on a path he didn't choose but one that was chosen for him.
After serving as a sacrifice in order to allow every remaining member of the party to escape, Jinwoo appeared to be slayed by the dungeon enemies before a text screen appeared above his head. After answering the video game-like text, Jinwoo awoke in a hospital bed, seemingly unharmed despite remaining aware of what had occurred. From this point forward, Jinwoo's life took a wild turn for the better, as he began to receive quests and side quests that not only increased his overall power and stats but gave him an opportunity to earn rare weapons and valuable items to help with future dungeon missions. Life had become like a video game for Jinwoo.

Jinwoo adapted and began to see the world differently, understanding his newfound powers and using them to survive treacherous dungeons and life-threatening monsters. Jinwoo's success in missions granted him the ability to raise his stats in increments, becoming stronger and more capable of lasting longer in a battle while also earning keys to unlock difficult missions. Jinwoo's main purpose for becoming a hunter was to earn the money required to save his mother from her illness, but now he was given the opportunity to seek out healing items that could not only help his parent but fully revive and awaken her from the slumber she was placed in.

The Job Change That Changes Everything
Sung Jin Woo's New Power May Be Overpowered
Despite growing stronger with each mission passing by, Jinwoo still felt inadequate about his power, knowing that the dungeon containing a life-saving healing item was much too powerful for him to take down alone. This was when the opportunity came to him, challenging him with a side dungeon that was incredibly tough but came with the reward of a job change. In Solo Leveling, hunters have a specific job that explores their strengths and weaknesses and gives them the power they need to take full advantage of their abilities. Though Jinwoo excelled at close-range, hand-to-hand combat, the opportunity to gain new abilities was too tempting to pass up.
The dungeon Jinwoo took on was not only the most difficult obstacle he faced to date, but it also came with several handicaps that made life tougher, including the blocking of any items being brought into the dungeon. This meant Jinwoo had to rely on his instincts to survive in battle and hope for some good fortune with the drops left behind by each enemy he defeated. Thankfully, Jinwoo managed to obtain a few healing items, which aided him in recovering from fatigue and ailments after an army of skeleton warriors took most of his stamina during the fight. Unfortunately for him, Jinwoo's greatest mission was behind the other side of the door.
Igris, once known as the Blood-Red Commander, was a loyal and chivalrous servant of the Shadow Monarch Ashborn, tasked with protecting him during the war against The Rulers. After Ashborn retired, he placed the burden of finding a new ruler on Igris, asking him to test the new combatant when the time was right. This time was now, as Jinwoo accepted the quest of taking Igris on in hopes of becoming the new Shadow Monarch and gaining his most powerful ally to date. The battle was thunderous and unlike anything Jinwoo had ever faced before, and the test of strength tipped heavily in the favor of the Blood-Red Commander. Jinwoo had one advantage to his name, which he used in the form of his intellect, gaining the upper hand after a lengthy battle.
Upon defeating Igris, Jinwoo earned the new job title of Necromancer, a gifted hunter who can raise slayed enemies from their graves and turn them into powerful shadows that serve his purpose. Stating the word "arise", any enemy with the will to serve would emerge as a shadow and side with Jinwoo, but Igris was the one entity that Jinwoo doubted he could awaken. After a few unsuccessful attempts, Jinwoo asked the spirit of Igris whether he wished to serve like the loyal fighter he once was or if he wished to continue lying around, waiting for his master, who would never return to him. With one more attempt, Jinwoo successfully awakened Igris, adding a tremendously gifted ally to his side.
