The upcoming re-release of the classic Star Wars game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter will allow players to play as Boba Fett. This comes as a reference to a fake Easter egg from the original game, in which Star Wars fans believed they could play as Boba Fett if they fulfilled certain criteria.

Aspyr Media has made a reputation for itself by re-releasing older Star Wars games for contemporary consoles. Its most recent endeavor was Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which coalesced the first two Star Wars: Battlefront games into a single package for modern audiences. Aspyr Media now has its sights on Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, an action-adventure game released back in 2002 that followed the journey of fearsome bounty hunter Jango Fett, on a contract to hunt down a dangerous Dark Jedi. The original release teased a hidden unlockable where players could play as Boba Fett, only for this not to be the case. Aspyr Media has decided to take this and make it a reality.

As revealed by Aspyr, players will be able to play as Boba Fett by completing the game in the re-release of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. The original game contained a low-resolution image with a hidden message in Aurebesh that simply read, "Cash in all bounties to play as Boba." Upon completing this task, however, no such reward would be given, leaving many Star Wars fans desperate for a chance to play Boba Fett. In the blog post, Bashaar explains that Aspyr has brought the Easter egg to life and that players will get the opportunity to equip a Boba Fett skin should they fully complete the campaign, bringing life to the ancient rumor after over 20 years.

Adding Boba Fett is not the only change being brought by Aspyr. Star Wars: Bounty Hunter's re-release brings with it enhanced environmental textures, lighting effects, and a flashlight that players can use should some areas feel too dark. It wasn't too long ago that the re-release of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was revealed, and with the release date sitting just a week away, it seems like Aspyr Media has kept the fans in mind when designing this re-release.

Aspyr Media doesn't have a completely clean track record when it comes to the Star Wars franchise, as seen by the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic going through a turbulent development cycle under Aspyr's wing. Reception towards Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is looking positive, however, and the most recent reveal that Boba Fett will be playable spells a good sign for fans of Star Wars who are looking to experience an old classic with fresh eyes when the game launches on August 1.
