When I first played?Star Wars: Fallen Order, I didn't know you could upgrade your medkit capacity and just b-lined through the game using my knowledge and skills as an experienced?FromSoftware fan. I beat the game in about 9 hours without ever finding any medkit upgrades or even knowing the system existed in the first place, and it makes me want to try an?Elden Ring?or?Dark Souls?playthrough without upgrading my Estus, too.

I think it's entirely dependent on the player's preference. I try not to summon in any of the FromSoftware games, as I find it more rewarding not to. However, I don't think anyone should feel bad about summoning online help or using something like Mimic Tear, especially as they're developer-intended mechanics.
No matter how many other great games I play, I always come back to?World of Warcraft?for new versions (like Season of Discovery), major patches, and expansions. After spending time in Azeroth throughout essentially my entire life, it feels like a second home to me. Returning to?Classic WoW?in recent years was a?massive?nostalgia bomb, but I'm pumped for an eventual?Classic Plus?to freshen up that experience.
I also re-play?Dark Souls 2?every year. No, I'm not a masochist – it was just the first?Souls?game I ever played, and frankly, it's not nearly as bad as people think. Majula is a top-tier hub area, and you know what, I'm gonna say it: lifegems are a good healing system.
The teased inclusion of a kind of lore journal in?Elden Ring: Nightreign?seems like a really, really good addition to the series' long-established esoteric narrative. It can be difficult to understand everything that's going on in?Elden Ring,?Dark Souls,?Bloodborne, and other FromSoftware games thanks to its approach to worldbuilding. But if we could reference a lore book that expands as we explore more of the world, that wouldn't take anything away from the game experience. It would just be nice to fully understand the story of FromSoft games without having to check every item description or watch dozens of YouTube videos.
There are a lot of amazing developers in the industry right now, but I have not been as enamored with a company as I have been with FromSoftware in the last few years. In my opinion, every game it puts out is a genre-defining, often genre-defying masterpiece, FromSoftware has won more GOTY awards at The Game Awards than any other developer (for?Sekiro?and Elden Ring), and based on its back catalogue and certified classic modern titles, I trust that whatever the studio decides to do next will be an absolute banger. It could be a remake of the Chao Garden from Sonic Adventure 2?and?I'm playing it day one, and I don't have that kind of loyalty to any other developer.
In this week's Game Rant Monday Matchup, it's a FromSoftware special feature as the finest final foes from Dark Souls and Elden Ring fight to extend their waning Lordship over a dying world – it's Gwyn, the Lord of Cinder (Dark Souls) VS Radagon of the Golden Order (Elden Ring)!
When thinking about who would win between Gwyn and Radagon, there are really two things to consider: each character's moveset in-game, and the strength of each character in their respective lore.
As an older game,?Dark Souls?is not nearly as complex as?Elden Ring?and Gwyn's slow and easily-parried attacks would probably not do much to threaten Radagon. Radagon has tons of spells at his disposal, can teleport, his hammer has surprising range, and he's not nearly as easy to parry – in fact, Radagon can parry?the player, while Gwyn can't.
But in terms of the power level of both characters in their respective games, it's a bit of a closer matchup. Gwyn is the current Lord of the Age of Fire, which is in its deat
Moonlight Greatsword aside, there are quite a few iconic weapons in the Dark Souls trilogy that fans should have fond memories of. I'll never forget the Drake Sword and the Gravelord Sword from the first game. Both could easily carry new players throughout the journey through Lordran without necessarily trivializing the game.
There's a myriad of bosses all throughout the Soulslike subgenre, but not all of them deserve a spot in the hall of hardest bosses ever, and those that do make the cut often compete with each other for the spot at the top. Malenia in Elden Ring is an easy pick, but so is Pontiff Sulyvahn in Dark Souls 3. For non-FromSoft games, Romeo, the King of Puppets in Lies of P is the first to come to my mind.
