2024 has been a fairly lean year when it comes to first-party PS5 exclusives, with the bulk of Sony's offerings having been remastered versions of PS4 games. Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered continues this trend of questionable remasters, allowing players to experience Aloy's debut outing natively on the PlayStation 5.

For anyone who's never played the game before, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered should serve as the definitive way to experience this epic adventure. However, even those who have already played it may be tempted to double dip, as it's possible to upgrade Horizon Zero Dawn to the remastered version for the fairly reasonable price of $10.

How to Upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PS5

Those who own a digital copy of Horizon Zero Dawn for the PS4 can already upgrade to the remastered version by visiting the game's PlayStation Store page and selecting the upgrade option. In the US, the upgrade will set players back $10, with the UK (?10) and European storefronts (€10) following a similar pricing structure. Upgrading before the game's October 31 release date will count as pre-ordering. As has been the case when upgrading to other PS5 remasters, players who own a physical copy of Horizon Zero Dawn will need to wait until the remaster is released before they can upgrade. If they do decide to upgrade the physical version, they'll need to have the disc inserted in order to be able to play.

How to Upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered on PC

Some PC players will also be able to upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered; specifically, those who purchased the original game through Steam or the Epic Games Store. Sadly, the PlayStation blog post announcing the remaster doesn't mention GOG, and, as of the time of writing, there isn't an option to upgrade to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered through GOG. Of course, this could all change in the future, but for the time being, the PC upgrade of Horizon Zero Dawn is limited to Steam and EGS customers.

Is the Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered Upgrade Worth It?

For anyone who has never played Horizon Zero Dawn, the 2024 remaster will serve as the definitive way to experience the game, boasting improved audio, visuals, and animations. Those who have already played through the game may not find any value in upgrading despite the modest cost of doing so, although if they do plan on completing the game again at any point, they should definitely consider the remastered version if upgrading is still an option.
