A Day In The Life Of A Sidekick

What Does It Take To Become A Sidekick?

Pro heroes are able to have more than one sidekick to help them with their tasks, while some heroes prefer to work without one. Heroes are at liberty to decide who they want as their sidekicks and they are mostly chosen based on their skills, experience and the potential of their quirks. Unlike the student from U.A. High, sidekicks already have their hero licence and are licensed to officially fight crime if needed, making them valuable assets to their heroes. Working as a sidekick for pro heroes has its pros and cons.

The pros being that sidekicks gain practical knowledge of what it takes to be a hero as they grow up with their mentor. The hands-on approach they get cannot be compared to if they were to operate alone. By working with a hero, a sidekick is able to hone their quirks and experience real-life scenarios of being a hero.

It doesn’t matter what your Quirk is if you’ve got a chivalrous heart!

Pro heroes who are in the top ten are usually too busy handling major threats and media, this is when sidekicks are able to "kick" in and take on responsibilities on behalf of the pro hero. This is seen when Endeavor's agency sidekicks were able to patrol the streets and attend to minor threats while he took on the big guns. Heroes are also more likely to select sidekicks which are in tandem with their quirks such as speed, strength, mobility, and the other various types of quirks. The dynamic between a hero and a sidekick is essential when it comes to the overall success of a mission.

Sidekicks Are Able To Choose Their Next Steps

Just like how sidekicks are a hero's backbone, sidekicks also have the potential to eventually become pro heroes and open up their own hero agency, as most of them would prefer to climb up their career ladder. The types of sidekicks can vary, as some can be student interns who are selected as a sidekick by a hero and allowed to use their quirks for emergency situations. Some sidekicks can also be the kind that do not directly help on the battlefield but rather invent gadgets that aid their heroes.

An example of this kind of sidekick is David Shield, who was a former sidekick and is now a scientist who develops support items for heroes. He is succeeded by his daughter, Melissa Shield. She is also the person who gave the Full Gauntlet to Deku to reduce the strain on his body.

The choice of becoming a hero or continuing working in the shadows is up to the sidekick to decide. Some prefer to work as support members of a hero's agency, while others see themselves as becoming future heroes. Sidekicks are a vital part of a hero's success and the right type of sidekick within the ranks can help a hero go far. Regardless of their contributions, sidekicks make a significant contribution to society and while they may go unnoticed by the public, they know they have fulfilled their duty by increasing the chances of ridding the world, one villain at a time.

In My Hero Academia, some humans have superpowers called quirks. Izuku Midoriya, nicknamed Deku, is not one of them. Deku has always idolized heroes like the number one hero, All Might, and since he was a child, he has always wanted to be a hero. However, his lack of a quirk has always held him back, but a chance encounter with All Might after discovering a classmate in danger sets Deku on the path to becoming a true hero. My Hero Academia centers around Deku and a class of heroes-in-training at UA. This school shapes young quirk users into future heroes through fake rescue missions, combat training, and other hero-tempering tasks. With young Deku inheriting the "One-For-All" quirk, he will learn what it means to be a true hero while facing off with dastardly supervillains.
