The Pokemon Trading Card Game has recently been almost born anew in Pokemon TCG Pocket. After the mobile venture was announced rather early into 2024, it was also released at the tail end of the same year in October. Pokemon TCG Pocket is unique in how it focuses on collecting cards first, with battling taking its second priority for once compared to its many features dealing with booster packs, rare picks, and display methods.
Launching so late in the year leaves many fans with one burning question, however, and that's about what exactly is normal and worth expecting from Pokemon TCG Pocket. As a mobile game, Pokemon TCG Pocket will add new content regularly to stay relevant among the competition of all the other apps on players' phones. There's still not enough history behind the game to truly know just what to expect from its regular updates yet. Instead, players have an entire year and some change to get acquainted with the game, how it works, and where it'll go from its humble beginnings as it continues to grow naturally.

Pokemon TCG Pocket May Have Only Just Begun With Its Events
Pokemon TCG Pocket has held a number of events since its launch, such as Chansey Picks in Wonder Pick, limited-time missions for special occasions like New Years', Mass Outbreaks, emblem events, and more. These events so far have been a bit small in scope, but players have already voiced plenty of improvements that Pokemon TCG Pocket can make going forward. Already, the holidays and New Years missions were an unexpected surprise from the new mobile game, which serves as a great example of how there's still time for fans to get unexpected events thrown their way.
When it comes to predicting future events, players definitely have an Articuno and Water-Type Mass Outbreak event to look forward to soon, matching the fact that Moltres and Zapdos have already had their turn, and the current Wonder Pick event seems to be combining Charmander and Squirtle into one event as the equal trade-off for Bulbasaur's previous time in the spotlight months ago. As previously mentioned, there's very little to go off of so far as Pokemon TCG Pocket is still within its first cycle of releases and events, but leaks regarding the game may give fans a more intricate timetable to follow, if they'd like to sneak a peak into the future.
What Fans Can Look Forward to According to Pokemon TCG Pocket Leaks
The recent leak has revealed the Squirtle and Charmander Wonder Pick event in advance alongside what events players can look forward to throughout January. The very same Wonder Pick event is going to take up a majority of the month according to the same information, but fans can be excited about the fact that 2025 is starting with an entirely new expansion at the end of January. Despite the leaks, there isn't anything known just yet for February or beyond, so fans might want to sit tight for further information officially or from other Pokemon TCG Pocket leaks in the future. The list of upcoming events can be found below.
- Wonder Pick event (Squirtle and Charmander) Part 2 - January 15 – 22
- Mythical Island emblem 5 consecutive win event - January 20 – 27
- Mew ex and Psychic-Type Mass Outbreak event - January 23 – 29
- Addition of the trade feature - No date yet, but sometime in January.
- Second expansion release - End of January; no concrete date yet.
Expanding Pokemon TCG Pocket in 2025
As mentioned officially in a Community Letter from the developers, trading is absolutely coming to Pokemon TCG Pocket in January, with limitations that'll be eased over time. Mythical Island releasing so soon after Genetic Apex seems to set a precedent that players won't have to wait long between new card releases as well. It seems that expansions like Genetic Apex might come around every four months, with themed booster packs such as Mythical Island keeping things exciting in between.
The rate at which these packs and expansions will be released will be easier to understand in time, but for now, players can rest easy that Pokemon TCG Pocket will certainly release plenty of cards each year. In this case, its mobile game format works well in that the demand for frequent content means DeNA can add new Pokemon with each expansion to eventually catch up with the Pokedex. A list including popular critters from each region that have yet to be added can be found below.

As fans can likely see by looking at the long list of currently excluded Pokemon, there are quite a lot of places that future expansions and booster packs can go. Fans of the Pokemon TCG are in for one of the most exciting years for the card game at large, and that's in part because TCG Pocket actively doubles the amount of cards and content fans have had to experience for some time.
It's clear that TCG Pocket is going to evolve quickly through the cards featured in Mythical Island compared to Genetic Apex which should keep players on their toes for some time. The fact that DeNA's cycle with TCG Pocket events and content is hard to pin down right now isn't at all a bad thing, as there's room for the unexpected in terms of improvements, surprises, and more, and fans will get to learn as the game progresses in no time at all.
