What Versions of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth Are Available To Purchase?
The following versions of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth are available to preorder or purchase currently:
- The Digital Standard Edition
- The Physical Standard Edition
- The Digital Twin Pack
- The Digital Deluxe Edition
- The Physical Deluxe Edition
- The Digital Deluxe Twin Pack
- The Physical Collectors Edition
Some of the physical editions such as the Physical Deluxe Edition and the Physical Collectors Edition (Square Enix Store Exclusive) are currently sold out. They can, however, be found on eBay trading at a higher multiple of their MSRPs with the Deluxe Edition fetching anywhere from $150 to $200, while the Collectors Edition units are in even shorter supply, going for as much as $500 or more on the site.
Scalpers are already hard at work trying to push their preorders to consumers who are otherwise unable to find a copy of the Physical Deluxe Edition.
What Edition of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth Should You Get?
For users looking to get the entire game without spending more, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth offers just that but does come with a few perks depending on whether you want to go physical or digital this round. The Digital Edition comes with the Moogle Trio Summoning Materia while the physical editions come with a variety of different physical offerings depending on the participating retailer one decides to pick up a copy from.
The following perks are currently in play:
- Users buying a physical copy of FF7: Rebirth from Amazon will get a free controller skin.
- Users buying a physical copy of FF7: Rebirth from Best Buy will get a Best Buy Exclusive Steelbook (a different steelbook compared to the Deluxe Edition offering however)
- Users buying a physical copy of FF7: Rebirth from GameStop get a free Trucker Hat.
- Users buying a Digital copy of FF7: Rebirth get access to the Moogle Trio Summoning Materia DLC.
Preordering allows gamers to have access to preloading the title, so it is available to play over the coming weekend or alternatively have a copy in the mail to get started. It must be noted that FF7: Rebirth comes in 2 discs physically and needs ~150GB of install space with a download to match. It might be pertinent for users with relatively limited internet speeds or capped downloads to go for a physical copy instead as a result.
Note: All physical copies of FF7: Rebirth come with a Midgar Bangle Mk. II armor bracelet irrespective of where they were ordered from. For users who do not currently own Final Fantasy 7: Remake and are going digital, it should be better to invest in the similarly priced Standard Twin Edition of FF7 at launch which contains a free copy at launch.
The Deluxe Edition is what most old-school FF7 gamers would look at as it offers plenty of extras for the added $30. Both the physical and digital deluxe editions come with an artbook and the soundtrack but their offerings slightly differ when it comes to the physical steelbook that the Physical edition offers while the digital edition offers more DLC including:
- Accessory: Reclaimant Choker
- Armor: Orchid Bracelet
- Magic Pot Summoning Materia
This is in addition to the digital versions of the artbook and the soundtrack even as the digital edition clocks in $10 cheaper than the physical deluxe edition. At the same time, it is important to also note that the physical deluxe editions are more or less sold out at most retailers, making it challenging to score a copy at MSRP even as scalpers continue to push higher prices on 3rd-party marketplaces like eBay.
Note: All physical copies of FF7: Rebirth come with a Midgar Bangle Mk. II armor bracelet irrespective of where they were ordered from. For users who do not currently own Final Fantasy 7: Remake and are going digital, it should be better to invest in the similarly priced Digital Twin Edition of FF7 at launch which contains a free copy at launch.
The Physical Collectors Edition is essentially the only edition game collectors should be looking at, in addition to those who want a complete experience with all the DLC possible in 1 box. It costs an astronomical $350 as a result, much of which can be justified thanks to the large 19-inch Sephiroth statue it offers as part of its value-add.
It also adds in everything from the Digital Deluxe and the Physical Deluxe Edition when it comes to both, in-game DLC offerings that the former brings to the table as well as physical collectible goodies that the latter sees strong demand for. A full list of goodies available with the Collectors Edition are detailed below:
- FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH GAME - Physical
- FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH STATIC ARTS - SEPHIROTH
- Exclusive Steelbook®
- Hardback Artbook
- Mini Soundtrack CD
- Accessory: Reclaimant Choker
- Armor: Orchid Bracelet
- Moogle Trio Summoning Materia
- Magic Pot Summoning Materia
The Collectors Edition, however, might be the most elusive edition on the list with it already out of stock in the Square Enix store, which is also the only place users can grab a copy. It is available at multiple scalper listings on eBay where it goes for $500 or more, currently. It also represents the most complete package of all of the above editions, but users looking for a copy of Final Fantasy 7: Remake as part of the package might want to consider the digital deluxe edition instead.
